It is well known fact that the foundation of modern computer science were laid by logicians. Logic is at the heart of computing. The development of contemporary logic and the problems of the foundations of mathematics were in close mutual interaction. We may ask why the concepts and theories developed out of philosophical motives before computers were even invented, prove so useful in the practice of computing. Three main programmes together with the constructivist approach are discussed and the impact on computer science is considered.

The article presents an outline of the history of computer science as well as the present state of computer technologies in Ukraine. The author has quoted the opinions of Ukrainian users of computers about Microsoft Vista system and its translation into the Ukrainian language. In the second part of the article, the focus is put on presenting the results of the analysis of nearly 1200 lexical items excerpted from the first four chapters of MS Word help files, including, among others, the issue of their origin.

A change can be evaluated by means of ethical and pragmatic values. Progress is change which entails higher evaluation in comparison with the former state. We ask a question whether progress evaluated by means of pragmatic values is also progress in ethical categories and vice versa: is something receiving better ethical evaluation something that also receives better pragmatic evaluation? The answer to both questions is 'no'. Whether progress measured by pragmatic values is progress in ethical dimension is decided by those who make and use that progress. A critical area for progress is information technology. A contemporary form of information technology is computer science technology. The technology brings tools for transmitting, storing, processing and searching for information. It is the most powerful information technology. Its origins date to the early 21st century. We are incapable of foreseeing its results. Computer scientists as creators and users of the technology should be particularly trustworthy people. An ethical reflection has accompanied the development and propagation of computer science in the United States. Today, along with globalization, it has become a global issue.

The article attempts to prove that reliable estimates in the extrapolation parametric functional size measurement methods of software development and implementation with customization projects require using benchmarking data. Accurate data for projects under consideration enable to obtain both rough estimates at the early stages of estimation process as well as more detailed estimates, in case of which one takes into account attributes of the undertaken project and differences in the productivity being characteristic of various project teams. An exemplary repository of benchmarking data allowing to derive reliable estimates with the use of extrapolation parametric FSMM of software development and implementation with customization projects is presented. Various purposes for using such data and exemplary regularities resulting from the analysis of these data are discussed.

Argumentation theory, as a subdiscipline of philosophy, concentrates on the human expression of reasoning. It is an ancient area of research which has been enjoying a renaissance over the past thirty years or so with the development of two distinct theoretical branches: informal logic and pragma-dialectics. Both of these areas have influenced the development of mathematical and computational models of arguments that since the mid 90's has seen an explosion in research interest and output: with the area currently supporting two annual workshop series, a biennial conference series, a slew of journal special issues and, from 2010, its own dedicated journal. The links between the philosophical and formal ends of argumentation research, however, have been relatively sparse and ad hoc. This paper aims to build a bridge between the two areas that supports a more rigorous and extensive exchange of ideas and results to the benefit of both fields.
