Local self-government units are obliged by law to provide certain public tasks for the society. However, in many Polish cities appears the infrastructural gap, which makes local governments search for alternative methods of investments financing. Poland, following the positive examples of other countries, begins to use forms in which private sector is included in realisation of investment processes. The paper presents the essence, financial sources and ways of realization infrastructural investments by the public council units, indicating the public and private partnership as a new, alternative form of public ventures financing. The latter part of the thesis quotes the conclusions of the European Commission, which shows that the PPP conception should not be only accepted but also promoted among the member states. Poland ought to create conditions which would allow effective use of such a form of financing.
