The article aims to present the official and unofficial mechanisms of selection, operation, and the composition of the Provincial Committee of the Polish United Workers’ Party (PZPR) in Bialystok from 1949 to 1989. The determinants of anomalies in the process of selecting party authorities are indicated. Fluctuations in committee members, their age, education and socio-professional status are presented. Additionally, the role of the executive and control bodies of the Regional Committee of the PZPR in the local power apparatus is described. An attempt was also made to compare various aspects of the Bialystok committee’s operation with analogous structures in other parts of the country.

W artykule podjęto próbę przedstawienia oficjalnych i nieoficjalnych mechanizmów wyboru i działania oraz składu Komitetu Wojewódzkiego Polskiej Zjednoczonej Partii Robotniczej w Białymstoku w latach 1949–1989. Wskazano uwarunkowania anomalii w procesie wyłaniania władz partyjnych. Zaprezentowano fluktuację członków komitetu, ich wiek, wykształcenie oraz status społeczno-zawodowy. Opisano też rolę organów wykonawczych i kontrolnych KW PZPR w lokalnym aparacie władzy. Podjęto również próbę porównania różnych aspektów działania białostockiego komitetu z analogicznymi strukturami w innych częściach kraju.

The objective of the article is to examine the material conditions of the Białystok Province in the years 1957–1970, as well as the differences between the situation in the Białystok region and national rates of salaries, expenses, consumption, provision and accommodation: they all developed to the disadvantage of the province. The analysis also covers behaviors and attitudes of the community in the region in the reality of deficit economy.

Celem artykułu jest zbadanie warunków materialnych mieszkańców województwa białostockiego w latach 1957–1970 oraz różnic między sytuacją na Białostocczyźnie a ogólnopolskimi wskaźnikami zarobków, wydatków, spożycia, zaopatrzenia i warunków mieszkaniowych – wszystkie kształtowały się na niekorzyść prowincji. Analizie poddano również zachowania i nastroje społeczeństwa regionu w realiach gospodarki niedoboru.

The paper aims to answer questions concerning the characteristics of the development process of the NewConnect market since its launch until the end of 2012, with particular emphasis on the results of an analysis of initial offerings conducted by companies willing to be listed. First, the authors’ objective and hypotheses are presented, followed by a description of the theoretical and legal aspects of the Alternative Trading System in Poland, including NewConnect and its place within the capital market, and the process of conducting an IPO and stock market debut. The second part of the paper contains the results of a research of the number, capitalization and initial offerings of companies on the alternative market, as well as the geographical and sectoral distribution of listed issuers. The summary includes the authors’ conclusions with regards the main hypothesis and general findings arising from the literature and empirical research, as well as identification of areas that require further analysis. The study allowed full realisation of the main objective. The results confirm the primary hypothesis, proving that NewConnect is gaining importance as a place to conduct an initial offering, in particular by companies which otherwise do not meet the conditions of admission to trading on the main market of the Warsaw Stock Exchange, both in terms of their value (the sum of offerings conducted) as well as the relative share (of IPOs in the alternative system in their total value) on the Polish capital market. Verification of secondary hypotheses was also successful, proving a far more universal character of the NewConnect market than assumed originally by the Organizer, and its complementarity with the main market of the Warsaw Stock Exchange.

Celem artykułu jest odpowiedź na pytania dotyczące cech charakteryzujących rozwój rynku NewConnect od momentu jego uruchomienia aż do końca 2012 r., ze szczególnym uwzględnieniem wyników badań obejmujących oferty pierwotne akcji przeprowadzone przez wszystkich docelowych debiutantów we wskazanym okresie. Artykuł składa się ze wstępu, dwóch części zasadniczych oraz podsumowania. We wstępie określono cel, jaki przyświecał autorom opracowania, oraz wskazano hipotezy – główną oraz cząstkowe. Pierwsza z części zasadniczych dotyczy teoretycznych oraz prawnych aspektów funkcjonowania alternatywnego systemu obrotu w Polsce, w tym miejsca NewConnect w ramach rynku kapitałowego oraz procesu przeprowadzania ofert pierwotnych i debiutu. Druga zawiera wyniki badań dotyczących liczby, kapitalizacji oraz ofert pierwotnych spółek na rynku alternatywnym, a także geograficznego i sektorowego podziału notowanych na nim emitentów. W podsumowaniu ustosunkowano się do hipotezy głównej oraz zawarto ogólne wnioski płynące z badań literaturowych i empirycznych, a także wskazano obszary, które wymagają dalszej analizy. Przeprowadzone badania w pełni pozwoliły na realizację zakładanego celu opracowania. Wyniki potwierdzają hipotezę główną, mówiącą o tym, że rynek NewConnect zyskuje na znaczeniu jako miejsce przeprowadzania ofert pierwotnych, ze szczególnym uwzględnieniem przedsiębiorstw niespełniających warunków dopuszczenia do notowań na rynku głównym GPW, zarówno w ujęciu wartościowym (suma przeprowadzanych ofert), jak i względnym (udział ofert pierwotnych w alternatywnym systemie w ogólnej ich sumie). Udana okazała się również weryfikacja hipotez cząstkowych, potwierdzających daleko bardziej uniwersalny charakter rynku NewConnect niż w pierwotnych założeniach jego organizatora, a także komplementarność tego rynku w stosunku do rynku głównego warszawskiej giełdy.

All organisms are exposed to numerous stress factors, which include harmful xenobiotics. The diversity of these compounds is enormous, thus in the course of evolution diverse biological defense mechanisms at various levels of organization have developed. One of them engages an evolutionarily conserved family of transporters from the ABC superfamily, found in most species - from bacteria to humans. An important example of such a transporter is the breast cancer resistance protein (BCRP/ABCG2), a typical integral membrane protein. It plays a key role in the absorption, distribution and elimination of a wide variety of xenobiotics, including drugs used in chemotherapy, and is involved in multidrug resistance. It also protects against phototoxic chlorophyll derivatives of dietary origin. BCRP is a hemitransporter which consists of one transmembrane domain, made of six alpha-helices forming a characteristic pore structure, and one ATP-binding domain, which provides the energy from ATP hydrolysis, required for active transport of the substrates. The isolation of BCRP is still not an easy task, because its insolubility in water and the presence of membrane rafts pose serious methodological and technical challenges during the purification. The aim of this study was to optimize the methods for detection and isolation of BCRP-enriched fractions obtained from animal tissue samples. In this report we describe an optimization of isolation of a BCRP-enriched membrane fraction, which is suitable for further protein quantitative and qualitative analysis using the molecular biology tools.
