Taking as the basis the data available in the literature the author discusses the frequency of the occurrence of lambliosis in Poland. As evident from the data about 5,5 per cent of the inhabitants of our country is infected with L. Intestinalis. Next the author described the pathological lesions which may appear in the course of lambtiosis and reaches the conclusion that. L. intestinalis can be regarded as a parasite of pathogenic properties. In the concluding notes of his report the author points to the necessity of mass control of the invasion with L. intestinalis.

Control of taeniarhynchosis with various preparations is discussed, a high effectivity of Yomesan (ca. 85%) and prasiquantel (100%) being indicated. The prasiquantel is also very effective in the treatment of hymenolepidosis (ca. 85%), and useful in treatment of some cases of cysticercosis and echinococcosis.

The authors treated 15 students (Asia, Africa) infected with Hymenolepis nana, using a single dose of praziquantel Biltricid of 30 mg/kg b.w., administered as two portions 15 mg/kg b.w. each, with an interval of 6 hrs. After two months the parasites were found to be absent in 13 persons (86.7%). The tolerance for Biltricid was found to be good, though an ultimate answer to the question of its medical application requires further studies.

The authors present a case of heavy hypochromic anaemia during the onset of lambliosis of a woman patient aged 18. Before coming to clinics she was getting anaemized in spite of intensive treatment for 6 weeks. On the day of her coming to clinics she was stated to have 1.500.000 erythrocytes and 18 per cent of haemoglobin. Besides in excrements there occured cysts and in the content of duodenum throphozoites of Lamblia intestinalis. The state of the patient being serious, except of antianaemic treatment she was given twice small doses of athebrine (0.12 g) after recommendations of prof. J. W. Grott. This was ment to decrease at least partially the onset of invasion. This kind of treatment brought the patient to graduał recovery. Next she was given a single big dose of athebrine (0.6 g) owing to which L. intestinalis was fought complttely. Then there was stated a quick recovery and the bettering of erythrocytic system (3.600.000 erythrocytes and 65 per cent of haemoglobin). Test examination after 6 months did not prove the presence of L. intestinalis and the symptoms of anaemia disappeared (erythrocytes 4.700.000, Hg 85 per cent.) The authors think that L. intestinalis may by the cause of serious diseases of haemopoietic system although this kind of illness occurs very rarely. In the treatment of lambliosis witht heavy pains there may by applied athebrine after J. W. Grott. It is given in smal doses (0.1-0.12 g) periodically every 10-14 days, independently of the simultanous treatment with other medicaments, and it gives a relief. This curative treatment may bring the patient to the conditions allowing efficient doses of athebrine and according to the complete curing of lambliosis and irequently accompanying complications.

The authors are giving results of treatment with Yomesan in 35 incidences of infectations with beef tapeworm (Taenia saginata). In the group composcd of 12 persons Yomesan was administered on an empty stomach, in cases of 2 tablets (at 0,5 g.); an hour later two tablets were gwen again and after two next hours the patients were gwen 300 ml of a 6 per cent solution of Magnesium sulfuricum which had to serve as a laxative. The results of faeces control carried out 3 to 4 months after the end of the treatment in 5 persons (41, 5 per cent) proved the patients were free from Taenia segments and its ova. In the remaining 7 persons the evacuation of the tapeworm segments began after 3 to 8 weeks. In the second group, counting 23 patients, the authors applied Yomesan in the same way as in the group number one, with the only difference that no laxative was given. Control investigations carried out 3 to 4 months after the treatment have not discovered any presence of Taenia in 18 patients (78.3 per cent). In 5 cases treatment with Yomesan proved to be unsucccssful. All patiens were given a light digestive food the day before the application of Yomesan. For supper they received cream of wheat. Nither laxative nor enema have been given after the administration of the drug. On base of results obbined after medication with Yomesan in cases of infestation with T. saginata the authors believe that: 1) Yomesan, i. c. amide N-/2'chloro-4-nitropheno-/i-chlorosalicylous is generally speaking, an efficacious preparaticn in infestations with beef tapeworm. Notice should be taken that better results are obtained when no laxative is applied after the cure. 2) It seems that Yomesan is all in all a preparation without noxious after - effects. 3) The easy application of Yomesan and its small toxicity could allow, after elaboration of a more suitable way of treatment than the present one, to introduce that drug for a general fight against the T. saginata infestation.

In the Parasitologie Ambulatory of the Clinical Hospital, Medical School, Lodz and in the Department of Parasitic Diseases, First Clinic of Internal Diseases, Medical School, Lodz, the authors applied iodide of dithiazanine in 190 instances (115 adult patients and 75 children aged 6-10 years) infestated with Trichuris trichiura, Ascaris lumbricoides and Enterobius vermicularis. To children this preparation has been administered in a quantity of 20 mg (kg. of weight) 24 hours, provided that the daily dose did not exceed 600 mg. Adult persons received iodide of dithiazanine 3 times daily in doses 200 mg, 2-2½ hours after meal. Exception was made in case of patients infestated with E. vermicularis which received iodide of dithiazanine 3 times daily in doses of 100 mg. During the curative period all the patients were advised to have a diet poor in cellulose. 1. Out of 124 patients infesteted with T. trichiura, after three cures with iodide of dithiazanine the authors stated complete recovery in 123 cases (98,8 per cent). 2. In 8 patients suffering from ascariasis complete recovery has been stated after one cure. 3. In 4 patients infestated with T. Trichura and A. lumbricoides complete recovery has been stated after two cures. 4. In 32 instances of oxyuriasis 30 persons have been cured (93,6 per cent) after three courses of treatment. 5. Complete recovery has been also stated after three courses of treatment with iodice of dithiazanine in 25 persons infestated with T. trichinra and E. vermicularis. On base of own observations the author came to the conviction that iodide of dithiazanine is an efficient preparation, worthy to be recommended in treatment of infestations with some parasite worms of the digestive tract, espccially T. trichiura. The curative value of iodide of dithiazanine is risen if it is applied 2 - 2½ hours after a meal and if the diet during the treatment is poor in cellulose.

The drug (diphosphate 7-chlor-4-/4-diethylamine-1-methylbutyl/chinoline) was applied in 14 cases of lambliosis; it was administered 3 times dayly in the amount of one 0.25 g tablet over 3 days. The control examinations of the duodenal content and feces made on the first or second day after the completion of the therapy showed in 3 cases the presence of L. intestinalis in the duodenal content. In four persons, the follow-up examinations were performed 1 month after treatment; in two of them L. intestinalis was discovered in the duodenal content. It is believed that the applicability of Arechin (Polfa) in lambliosis requires further studies to establish the appropriate methods of treatment with this drug.
