W tradycji ewangelickiej szczególną rolę pełnią księgi wyznaniowe, zwane również księgami symbolicznymi. Artykuł omawia znaczenie owego szesnastowiecznego korpusu doktrynalnego luteranizmu dla kształtowania tożsamości religijnej. Punktem wyjścia jest refleksja współczesnych filozofów religii: Paula Ricoeura, Jan Kłoczowskiego oraz Paula Tillicha na temat porzucenia przez człowieka XX wieku symbolicznego wymiaru życia. Otwarcie się na język symboli to początek egzystencji, którą można określić jako „postawę symboliczną”. Taka postawa potrzebuje właśnie symboli jako punktów odniesienia. Następnie Autor sięga do pojęcia symboliki jako teologicznej nauki o wyznaniach, by przejść do definicji ksiąg symbolicznych i ich historycznej roli w budowaniu duchowości protestanckiej. W Konfesji augsburskiej z 1530 roku, głównej księdze doktrynalnej luteranizmu zawarte są definicyjne formuły teologii ewangelickiej. Autor podkreśla ekumeniczny wymiar zapisów znajdujących się w Confessio augustana oraz jej odkrycie w luterańsko-rzymskokatolickim dialogu bilateralnym, jako księgi świadectwa budowania chrystocentrycznej wiary. W tradycji ewangelickiej to właśnie księgi wyznaniowe pełnią formę stałych punktów orientacyjnych, wskazując na wspólne dziedzictwo chrystianizmu.

In the Protestant tradition, the symbolical (confessional) books fulfila special role in creating piety and spirituality. The article discusses the role of the Lutheran doctrine of the 16th century in the process of formation of the religious identity of this tradition within Christianity. Important references for this article are also the conceptions of Paul Ricoeur, Jan Kłoczowski as well as Paul Tillich. These three important thinkers of the 20th century emphasize that modern man has lost the spiritual dimension of his life. The so-called “symbolical attitude” is the way to open one’s mind to the language of symbols. In the next step, the author of the article focuses on the very special role of the confessional books of Lutheranism in the creation of the spiritual dimension of human life. It is in the Confessio augustana of 1530 that the most important criteria of Lutheran identity are to be found. The Author underlines the role of this book in ecumenical dialogue between the Roman Catholic Church and the Lutheran Worlds Federation.

The article presents the celebration of the 500th Jubilee of the Reformation in the Polish context. The attempt is the 500th anniversary of the Luther`s 95 Thesis published on 31st of October 1517. There are 3 protestant churches in Poland, which are direct successor of the Reform of the Church led by Luther, Melanchthon, Bugenhagen, Zwingli and Calvin in 16th century.

In the period of the second half of the 20th century we can observe the growing interest of local churches in conducting their teaching in a modern form of Catechism for adult people. The subject of this article is the idea of modern Catechism in practical life of the Lutheran Church and its realization in some contexts. The first and still most important book in this line is the German Evangelischer Erwachsenenkatechismus. Kursbuch des Glaubens (EEK), first edition in 1975. The monumental work (exactly 1356 pages) was an effect of cooperation of several theologian and religious pedagogues and it was done of the will of Federation of German Lutheran Churches (VELKD) after 6 years of activity. In the year 2010 the 8th renewed edition of this monumental opus was published. The catechism was translated in many languages throughout the world. This work could be a proper pattern for the Polish original edition that is very expected in the community of the Lutheran Church in Poland. The article also discusses some other concepts of the adult catechism within the German context (for example some “small or compact cate-chisms”) as well as the Roman Catholic Catechism of 1992. The latter is one of the most important theological work of the end of the 20th century being much more precise than the German EEK. The most important postulate of this paper is to show the lack of such work in the Polish context and to appeal to the Polish Lutheran Synod to start working on the edition of the Polish Lutheran Catechism for Adults.

The article presents the relationship between the classical Protestant Theology and the Postmodern World. The attempt is the 500th anniversary of the Reformation in the year 2017. Protestant theology of the 16th century understood the human being as a Gods creature who is in permanent conflict with Satan. The anthropological formula of the Martin Luthers theology was framed in the Latin phrase simul iustus et peccator. In the Postmodern World such a description does not fit into the language and pattern of the majority of people who live in the digital reality. The article refers the ideas of Zygmunt Bauman (Liquidity) and Richard Rorty (Contingency) as protagonists of the postmodern philosophy as well as some of the pattern of the recent protestant conceptions. The conclusion of the article is that the Protestant theology should leave the older form of a big narration and tries to lead a real dialogue with postmodern human being.
