An in vitro plant regeneration system was established from the spores of Pteris vittata and identification of its tolerance, and accumulation of gametophytes and callous, to arsenic (As) and copper (Cu) was investigated. The highest frequency (100%) of callus formation was achieved from gametophyte explants treated with 0.5 mg l⁻¹ 6-benzylaminopurine (6-BA) + 0.5 mg l⁻¹ gibberellin acid (GA). Furthermore, sporophytes were differentiated from the callus tissue derived from gametophyte explants on MS medium supplemented with 0.5 mg l⁻¹ 6-BA, 0.5–1.0 mg l⁻¹ GA and additional 300 mg l⁻¹ lactalbumin hydrolysate (LH) for 4 weeks. The optimum combination of ½ MS + 1.0 mg l⁻¹ GA + 0.5 mg l⁻¹ 6-BA + 300 mg l⁻¹ LH promoted sporophyte formation on 75 ± 10% of the callus. Every callus derived from gametophyte explants could achieve 3–4 sporophytes. The in vitro growth of gametophyte and callus was accelerated in the medium containing Na3AsO4 lower than 0.5 mM, but this growth was inhibited with 2 mM Na3AsO4. And with the increase of Na3AsO4 in the culture medium from 0 to 2 mM, the As accumulation in gametophytes and callus increased and achieved a level of 763.3 and 315.4 mg kg⁻¹, respectively. Gametophytes and calluses transplanted to culture medium, supplemented with different concentrations of CuSO4, are similar to those in Na3AsO4, and the Cu accumulation in gametophytes could achieve 7,940 mg kg–1 when gametophytes were subcultured in medium containing 3 mM CuSO4. These results suggested that the high efficiency propagation system could be a useful and rapid means to identify other heavy metal tolerance and accumulation. Further, the regeneration ability of callus made it possible for genetic transformation of this fern.

Tri-axial gyroscopes used to be the only instrument used to measure the angular increments of airplanes. However, because there were no reference devices, drift and accumulation errors affected the accuracy of the estimated attitude. In this paper, we propose a novel method for measuring angular increments based on a tri-axial accelerometer and a triaxial magnetometer. Then, we mathematically proved the feasibility of the proposed method. The results of our simulation and experimental tests indicated that the proposed method accurately indicates the attitude of an airplane.

In this study, using the quadratic saturation 310 D-optimal design method, we examined the effect of kinetin (KT), gibberellic acid (GA), and naphthalene acetic acid (NAA) on microrhizome production in ginger. The effect of GA on rhizome induction was larger than that of KT or NAA. Using simulation and optimality selection for tissue culture, we found that concentrations of GA, KT, and NAA of 1.33–2.35, 0.49–0.66, and 0.62 g/l, respectively, gave a microrhizome weight of over 0.25 g. The optimal conditions for microrhizome production were 80 g/l sucrose, 2 9 MS macro-elements, and 1 9 MS microelements, with a photoperiod of 24L:0D (light/dark). At the same time, 100% survival could be achieved on transfer of the in vitro ginger plantlets with microrhizomes to soil.

For the problem of integrating wind power in a large scale, constructing an objective function which minimize the total production cost of the pumped storage and thermal power unit. Improved harmony search algorithm with examples are applied in solving the objective function,and the case analysis the change of the operation cost of wind storage system and greenhouse gas emission with different power demand and wind speed forecasting scenes. The results show that the increase of wind power installed capacity can reduce the operation cost of wind storage system and reduce greenhouse gas emission. At the same time,it also can effectively smooth wind power output and lower the volatility of the wind power integration.

Artykuł dotyczy zagadnienia tworzenia dużych ferm wiatrowych i kontroli kosztów wytwarzania energii. Proponowany algorytm minimalizacji strat, poddaje analizie czynniki taki jak koszty magazynowania energii, emisja gazów cieplarnianych przy różnym stopniu zapotrzebowania energetycznego i prędkości wiatru. Przedstawiono wyniki badań oraz wnioski.

Quartz is, in most cases, the major gangue mineral found in the iron ores. Although it can be activated by calcium at strong alkaline pH, quartz nevertheless, reports to the concentrate with Fe when the iron ores contain siderite. It causes a poor concentrate grade and separation between quartz and iron minerals. The effect of siderite on reverse anionic flotation of quartz from hematite was studied in our previous investigations. In this work, the effect of siderite dissolution on the quartz recovery in the froth product and the effect of pH, ions and temperature on siderite dissolution were investigated. Microflotation, PHREEQC simulation, solution chemistry calculation and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) measurements were conducted. It was observed that the dissolved species of siderite exhibited negative impact on quartz flotation. This influence became weak to some extent by either stripping the dissolved species or shortening dissolution time. Siderite was easily dissolved in the presence of calcium ion under strong alkaline conditions and its solubility increased with increasing the calcium ion concentrate and temperature. When the calcium ion was added as an activator of quartz under strong alkaline conditions (pH>9.96), calcium existed mainly in the CaCO3 precipitation form according to the solubility rule in the presence of siderite. This form could adsorb onto quartz surfaces and further the chemical reaction between starch and quartz was monitored by FTIR measurements. This study provides a further supplement for previous study. A potential strategy is suggested that finding a collector used at low temperature or flotation under neutral (or weak alkaline) medium is helpful to the reverse flotation of iron ores containing siderite.

A modified QuEChERS (quick, easy, cheap, effective, rugged, and safe) method and ultrahigh-performance liquid chromatography coupled to tandem mass spectrometry (UHPLC–MS/MS) were optimized and validated for 16 antibiotics belonging to three families (macrolides, quinolones, and sulfonamides) that were found in preserved eggs. Samples were extracted in 4 mL water and 10 mL acetonitrile with 1% acetic acid and subjected to a cleanup procedure using dispersive solid-phase extraction with C18 and primary secondary amine sorbents, prior to detection by UHPLC–MS/MS. Matrix-matched calibration was used for quantification to reduce the matrix effect with limits of quantification in the range of 0.3–3.0 μg/kg. Validation of the method was conducted by recovery and precision experiments. Recoveries of the spiked samples ranged from 73.8% to 127.4%, and the intra- and inter-day relative standard deviations were lower than 21.2% and 22.3%, respectively. This method was successfully applied to the analysis of antibiotics in preserved egg samples.

Background: The aim of the study was to probe the morphological features of the proximal segment (V1) of vertebral artery (VA) in a sample of Chinese cadavers. Materials and methods: The origin, course and outer diameter at origin of the pre-vertebral part of the VAs were evaluated in 119 adult cadavers. Results: It was found that 94.12% of the VAs originated from the subclavian arteries, bilaterally. The variant origins were present in 5.88% of the cadavers and all originated directly from the arch of the aorta. All the variations were observed on the left side of male cadavers. The average outer diameters at origin of the normal and variation groups were 4.35 ± 1.00 mm and 4.82 ± 1.42 mm, respectively, p = 0.035. In the normal group, but not in the variation group, the average diameter in the males was significantly larger than that in the females (4.50 ± 0.99 mm, 3.92 ± 0.92 mm, respectively, p = 0.000). In addition, only 5 cadavers in the normal group had hypoplastic VAs (4.20%, 4 males, 3 right-sided). Vertebral artery dominance (VAD) was present in 91 (69 males) out of 112 cadavers and more common on the left (n = 48). In addition, 3 cadavers satisfied conditions for coexistence of VAD and vertebral artery hypoplasia. All 7 cadavers in the variation group exhibited VAD, which was more common on the right side (n = 5). Conclusions: The morphologic variations and frequencies described above have implications for the early prevention, abnormal anatomy detection, accurate diagnosis, safe surgery and endovascular treatment of cardiovascular and neurological disease.
