Damage under fretting conditions of the steel 40x, quenched and tempered at different temperatures was investigated, that the set of structures from martensite to ferrite-perlitic provided. Tests were carried out at different loadings and slip-amplitudes in the kerosene medium TC-1. For the characteristic of the local damage degree at fretting notion of fretting-factor was introduced. Fretting-factor depends on a condition of heat treatment and slip-amplitude. Connection of friction and wear characteristics with the rheological properties of the contacting materials at fretting was observed.
