Wheel and rail contact is a transport application of contact mechanics. Outputs of the contact interface are investigated in various perspectives. Examinations of the inputs are generally ignored, but there are assumptions that include material parameters. This study examines the material inputs and assumptions of the previous wheel and rail contact analyses. This study covers the comparison of different elastic material parameters and the effects of the elastic wheel assumption.

The paper deals with the description of electric motors as one of the parts of the driving system model designed to simulate mechanical phenomena. The first part of this text describes a model of a serial DC motor which was extensively used in locomotive design in the past. Attention is paid to the formulation of nonlinear magnetisation characteristics and obtaining its parameters from a complete tractive effort diagram of a locomotive. Further, a brief description of a three-phase asynchronous motor based on the Kloss model is given.
