The paper outlines the most significant problems faced by librarians who provide library and information service to people with reading disabilities. These reflections are presented on a background of the psychological and social-cultural barriers that often lead to negative attitudes towards people with disabilities and their stereotypical perception. The study also indicates the knowledge, skills and personality traits that librarians need to have in order to prevent falling into the trap of stereotypes and prejudices, and shows how to provide quality service to people with disabilities who usually cannot use standard print publications. The article concludes with a discussion on the librarians' obligations towards users with special needs, based on a number of laws and regulations, including 'the Code of Ethics for the Librarians and the Information Science Employees', the IFLA recommendations and Polish draft of 'the Act on Equalizing Chances for People with Disabilities' that prevents discrimination of people with disabilities at public institutions, including the libraries.

A review of a book dedicated to changing functions of school libraries and librarians in the context of an information system. The book brings new elements to the existing knowledge in this field, especially the cooperation of teachers with teaching librarians. Difficulties and deficiencies of adolescents in selection and use of documentary material can contribute to the identification of educational activities and, consequently, to their greater efficiency.

Recenzja książki, której tematem jest biblioteka opisywana i analizowana w kontekście kulturowym i społecznym. Autor uznał, że bibliotekę tworzy oczywisty czynnik materialny i funkcjonalny, na który składają się: księgozbiór, struktura organizacyjna, styl zarządzania instytucją i personelem. Dostrzegł też jednak drugi składnik biblioteki: kulturową nadbudowę, tzw. ducha, aurę biblioteki, który rozwijał się razem z nią i który budował jej wizerunek oraz tożsamość.

Review of a book dedicated to the subject of the library described and analyzed in cultural and social context. The author states that there are two major components that constitute the library: tangible and intangible. The first one are obvious material and functional factors such as books, the organizational structure, the management style of the institution and the staff. The latter one is the cultural superstructure, the so-called spirit, the aura of the library which has developed and evolved to build its image and identity.
