The aim of this article is to find answers to whether the transformation which is now taking place in the Polish school requires that teachers change their attitude, otherwise known as an ethos? The research was carried out in the beginning of 2016 and involved the schools at the gymnasium and post-gymnasium levels located in urban areas of the Pomorskie and Kujawsko-Pomorskie regions. An analytical-synthesizing method was appliedin the first part of the research. Hence, it was possible to assess the available settlements as far as the issues connected with the understanding of the ethos were concerned. The main tool was an anonymous survey which the students completed on their own. However, the character of the issue tackled required the application of a secondary research method, i.e. an anthropological interview. The study carried out among gymnasium and lyceum students proves the students know little about the very notion of the teacher ethos. That, however, does not change the fact that students realize teachers, in their work and private lives, need to follow certain values which are helpful in becoming a role-model and in the widely-understood development of people within the school environment. According to the surveyed, the teacher ethos is mostly connected to teachers’ moral stance. Although students themselves are not too demanding of their teachers, as far as their flawless moral attitude is concerned the interview showed the students find their teachers’ moral stance worthy and influential upon their upbringing. Students consider educational competence, professional knowledge and the skill of passing the knowledge more desirable than the ethos.

W artykule przedstawiono omówienie aktualnych trendów zdalnego odczytu wodomierzy, jako ważnego elementu tzw. inteligentnych miast. Szczególną uwagę poświęcono technologii WIZE 169 MHz. Zaprezentowano także wstępne wyniki badań skuteczności działania systemu zdalnego odczytu wodomierzy bazującego na tej technologii. Badania przeprowadzono wykorzystując pilotażowe wdrożenie tego systemu w Augustowie i okolicach, zrealizowane w październiku 2020 r. przez firmę AquaRD. Pilotażem objęto 73 wodomierze przesyłające dane do pojedynczego koncentratora oddalonego maksymalnie o 7,5 km. Celem tego wdrożenia było praktyczne sprawdzenie dojrzałości zastosowanej technologii WIZE 169 MHz do wdrożeń komercyjnych. W ramach pilotażu badano możliwości tej technologii zarówno w kontekście efektywności odczytu (odczyt z trudnych lokalizacji np. oddalonych czy okresowo zalewanych studzienek, a także miejsc bez sygnału telefonii komórkowej), a także wykorzystania powstałego narzędzia informatycznego integrującego proces odczytu i zarządzania wodomierzami.

The article presents an overview of the current trends in remote reading of water meters as an important element of the so-called smart cities. Particular attention was paid to WIZE 169 MHz technology. Preliminary results of the research on the effectiveness of the remote reading of water meters based on this technology are also presented. The research was carried out using the pilot implementation of this system in Augustów and its vicinity, carried out in October 2020 by the AquaRD company. The pilot project covered 73 water meters transmitting data to a single concentrator located up to 7.5 km away. The purpose of this implementation was to test the maturity of the applied WIZE 169 MHz technology for commercial implementations. As part of the pilot study, the possibilities of this technology were investigated both in the context of reading efficiency (reading from difficult locations, e.g. remote or periodically flooded manholes, as well as places without a cell phone signal), as well as the use of the developed IT tool that integrates the process of reading and managing water meters.
