This paper studies the supremum of chi-square processes with trend over a threshold-dependent-time horizon. Under the assumptions that the chi-square process is generated from a centered self-similar Gaussian process and the trend function is modeled by a polynomial function, we obtain the exact tail asymptotics of the supremum of the chi-square proces with trend. These results are of interest in applications in engineering, insurance, queueing and statistics, etc. Some possible extensions of our results are also discussed.

Reduction of colony diameter using two DMI-fungicides and one strobilurine fungicide was evaluated in the Septoria tritici population. In an in vitro assay, 57 strains of S. tritici originating from different parts of the Czech Republic were grown on agar plates containing different concentrations of fungicides. The mean EC₅₀ values of strains were analysed for flusilazole (Capitain), metconazole (Caramba) and one strobilurine fungicide: azoxystrobin (Amistar). ED 50 values for metconazole were low. There were highly significant correlation in reaction of pathogen strains to metconazole and flusilazole. Some isolates showed significant higher level of resistance to azoxystrobin. The data will be used in a continuing survey of resistance development in the S. tritici population originating from the territory of the Czech Republic.

Na podstawie redukcji średnicy kolonii grzyba Septoria tritici oceniano odporność populacji grzyba na dwa fungicydy z grupy IBE i jeden fungicyd strobilurynowy. 57 szczepów (izolatów) Septoria tritici, zebranych z różnych rejonów Republiki Czech, testowano „in vitro” na szalkach Petriego z agarem z dodatkiem fungicydów w różnych koncentracjach.

To understand how temperate coexisting tree species respond to water deficit, the seedlings of two coexisting species, Phellodendron amurense Rupr. And Fraxinus mandshurica Rupr., were transplanted into plastic flowerpots. Three water deficit treatments were used, W1 (60-90% field moisture capacity), W2 (40-60% field moisture capacity), and naturally occurring precipitation (CK), with the aim of investigating the effects of water deficit on the growth of seedlings and competition between them. The result showed that the relative height and diameter of the P. amurense seedlings decreased in the control groups (CP, single P. amurense seedling; CF, single F. mandshurica seedling) but increased in the mixed groups (one P. amurense seedling and one F. mandshurica seedling together) with the water deficit. The water deficit affected the plants by altering the growth of the seedlings and competition between the two species. It was shown that there were greater negative effects on P. amurense due to the manufactured water deficit than on F. mandshurica.

Oxytropis ochrocephala Bunge is a poisonous legume plant which exhibits drought acclimation behavior and spreads rapidly under adverse environment. This study demonstrates that the stress signals including NO (nitric oxide), ABA (abscisic acid), and H2O2 (Hydrogen peroxide) are involved in roots of O. ochrocephala seedlings when exposed to drought stress simulated by PEG-6000 solution. The relationship among these signals was investigated by using exogenous and endogenous modulators. The results indicate that a time course of NO is accumulated in roots of O. ochrocephala in response to drought stress, which is generated enzymatically by nitrate reductase (NR) activity. The low level of NO acts as a downstream signaling of ABA and is involved with H2O2 signaling cascade. There is a regulatory mechanism of controlling NO concentration and maintaining the equilibrium state between ROS (reactive oxygen species) and NO, which modulates the root cell vitality, and osmotic adjustment thus improves root growth and developmental processes under drought stress.

Fluid inclusions in halite can directly record the major composition of evaporated seawater; however, Ordovician halite is very rare. The Ordovician is a key time during the evolution history because profound changes occurred in the planet’s ecosystems. Marine life was characterized by a major diversification, the Great Ordovician Biodiversification Event and the Late Ordovician Mass Extinction, the first of the “big five” mass extinctions. However, so far there is no data on the Ordovician seawater. Data from the Ordovician-Silurian boundary were available only. In this study, we report the major compositions from Middle Ordovician halite in China to give the exact composition of Ordovician seawater. The basic ion composition (K+, Mg2+, Ca2+, and SO42-) of inclusion brines was established with the use of ultramicrochemical analysis. The data on the chemical composition of the brines in the primary inclusions indicated that the brines were of Na-K-Mg-Ca-Cl (Ca-rich) type, and cover a huge gap in the evolution of seawater chemistry. The chemical composition of the primary inclusion brine in halite confirmed the earlier results for the Cambrian and Silurian halite originating from other salt basins and the previous speculation of “calcite sea” during the Ordovician, indicating a higher potassium content in the Lower Paleozoic seawater than in the seawater of other periods of the Phanerozoic.
