Nowadays in Industry we observe commonly implemented 6, 12, 18 pulse topologies for input units of High Power Frequency Converters. Also more and more we can meet Active Front End solutions with active rectifier unit. In this article we show diagrams of recorded input currents and input voltages flows for 6,12,18 pulse and AFE input topologies of similar nominal power frequency converters ( ca 800kW drives for water pumps). Recordings have been made in real industrial circumstances at different load steps to perform THDI distortion factor calculations. We expect, that results of these calculations will allow us to decide , what topology should be recommended for new High Power Variable Speed Drive solutions.

In the article are presented based dependances wastes power in power transmission system of water feed pump with fliud flywheel (SH). On the basis this system, were calculated values of waste power in power transmission system of water feed pump with motor of 4 MW horse - power, 6 kV voltage and 3000 obr/min rotational, synchronus speed. As well was made calculations wastes power in power unit wit the same pump with motor controllable by means of frequency converter mean voltage (PCSN). Based on figures registration of wastes power in real power unit showed improvment efficiency energetic which have gained by use PCSN.

Silniki indukcyjne o mocach powyżej 250 kW zasilane są najczęściej napięciem znamionowym 6000 V. Wartość tego napięcia była przyczyną, że do końca tego wieku silniki te rzadko pracowały z regulacją prędkości obrotowej przy pomocy przekształtników energoelektronicznych. Obecnie, dzięki zastosowaniu półprzewodników typu SGTC, IGCT, HVTGBT są produkowane przemienniki częstotliwości średniego napięcia (CMV) [1]. Autorzy na podstawie własnych prac projektowych, badań oraz pomiarów, zaproponowali ocenę jakości zasilania silników indukcyjnych z CMV.

Inductions motor with power above 250 kW are usually supplied by rated voltage 6000 V. This value was the main reason that till the end of this century induction motors rarely worked with rotational speed regulation using power electronics converters. At present, due to using SGTC, IGCT, HVTGBT semiconductor, there are produced medium voltage frequency converters (CMV) [1]. Authors, on the grounds of their projects, researches and measurements, proposed quality assessment of induction motors with CMV.

In this paper, the criteria for the selection elements of the drive system water supply pump are presented. Currently, drive system with fluid coupling is used, which make a base for creating a new type of drive systems. Considered drive systems consists of squirrel-cage motor medium volatge and medium voltage invertor. The selection was dependent on qualitative and quantitative criteria, which describe technical, operating and economic properties. There were described three types of drive systems with medium volatge invertor. Moreover, application of new drive system with fluid coupling VORECON was considered. Based on charactristics of selected pump and predicted working point, calculated power input of drive systems, energy efficiency and distortion factor of input current. Obtained results allowed to quantify of mentioned drive systems. Further evaluation could be made based on propertis of drive system not inclued in this study. Presented method of drive system selection could be useful in practice design.
