The microstructure of nanocrystalline Nb-containing HITPERM alloys is strongly dependent on a small Cu addition. In these alloys Cu atoms form clusters, contrary to the analogous Zr-containing alloys. The Co content also affects the microstructure. The relationship between alloy composition and the microstructure can be explained by assuming two different nucleation mechanisms: at sites far from the already formed nanocrystals and at sites in contact with one of them and with the same crystallographic orientation.
