Functional data analysis is used to examine beef price differences in selected countries of the European Union from 2006 to 2011. The prices are modeled as functional observations. The analysis is conducted in three steps relating to three kinds of functional data analysis. First the observations are smoothed with roughness penalty. Then functional principal analysis is applied. Finally functional analysis of variance is used to reveal significant difference between two given groups of countries.

This paper measures and compares the job-finding and separation transition rates of Polish voivodeships from 2005:Q1 to 2014:Q2. It uses readily accessible data of Local Data Bank in Poland: registered unemployment person by duration of unemployment and registered unemployment rate. The method of measurement stems from influential paper by Shimer on "Reassesing the Ins and Outs of Unemployment". The main sources of variability between the rates are investigated in terms of functional principal components.

The work relates to changes of the eggs prices in European Union member states since 2004 to 2010. The analysis is based on annually, monthly and weekly average eggs prices. Correspondence analysis is applied to analyze the direction and structure of the changes with reference to all considered states. The unexpected and violent price changes are captured with respect to particular states. Moreover in the reference to chosen states, the model of structural time series analysis is applied to show the price changes in a more detail.

For nearly thirty years now Tadeusz Różewicz has published his poems with their earlier version (e.g. Płaskorzeźba Bas-relief), (1991). It can be described in terms of genetic criticism, talking of a way to the ultimate version, a way to self-cognition. It is also possible - and this is the task of this essay - to see in it a specific text game, aiming at double conveyance. A new whole is being created, which consists as if of the discarded, deleted elements, but here revoked in a new function - manifestation of the text in its many plots. From the clash of rough first drafts, deletions and "ultimate" versions as if a new poem arises, "the third poem", which exists only on the scene of reading.

The paper describes various criteria for the construction of confidence intervals based on the control of the error of overestimation or underestimation of a parameter and on the pre-determined precision of the parameter estimation. The respective constructions are illustrated by confidence intervals for the parameters of the normal distribution. Examples presented in the paper show the influence of some selected criteria on the formula of the appropriate confidence interval. The performed calculations show the dependence of the width of a given interval on the size of the sample, and vice versa – the size of the sample on the pre-determined width of this interval. The problem of selecting the sample size with a predetermined precision of the estimation was presented taking into account solutions that do not depend on the estimated values of the unknown parameter. The aim of the study is to show how the problem of confidence intervals construction can be presented more comprehensively in statistical education.

W artykule opisano różne kryteria konstrukcji przedziałów ufności oparte na kontroli błędu przeszacowania i niedoszacowania parametru, jak również na zadanej z góry precyzji oszacowania tego parametru. Odpowiednie konstrukcje zilustrowano przedziałami ufności dla parametrów rozkładu normalnego. Zamieszczone w pracy przykłady pokazują wpływ zadanych kryteriów na postać przedziałów ufności, a wykonane obliczenia przedstawiają zależność szerokości danego przedziału od rozmiaru próby i odwrotnie – rozmiaru próby od zadanej szerokości tego przedziału. Zagadnienie doboru wielkości próby przy zadanej z góry precyzji oszacowania parametru zaprezentowano z uwzględnieniem rozwiązań, które nie zależą od szacunkowych wartości nieznanego parametru. Celem artykułu jest pokazanie, w jaki sposób można rozszerzyć temat konstrukcji przedziałów ufności w edukacji statystycznej.

A dialogue of the author with himself/herself, with his/her own text can proceed as an utterance about intentions or about something that has already been written. This is as if a meeting with the Other, and an attempt at understanding him. Or a rejection. What is meant in this work is to look at this on several selected examples. And so in Przyboś theory became rather a testing ground for the new ideas. Since Kundera wrote that a novel introduces "the wisdom of uncertainty" then one might ask, e.g. whether in his The Art of the Novel he takes up a polemic with his own texts, just there where they border on certainty? However, Immortality, written a little bit later than The Art of the Novel, is already a game with this programme, with one's own past. Here a game of unreality goes with the reader. In Stefan Chwin's Kartki z dziennika [Pages from a Diary] this form of loose pages is a particular form of utterance. Going back to his texts, Chwin clearly shows his reluctance to be subordinated to some one sense; he shows the polyphony of texts (Złoty Pelikan [A Golden Pelican]). These voices are even more multiplied along with every utterance of the author or of the critics.

Głównym celem pracy było określenie zmian w regionach na poziomie gospodarstwa ze względu na dochód w okresie od 2004 do 2012 roku. W pierwszej części artykułu zestawiono dynamikę dochodów w poszczególnych województwach w Polsce. Dynamikę opracowano pod względem poziomu dochodów, koncentrując się na  tempie i przyspieszeniu. W drugiej części pracy wzięto pod uwagę kilka zmiennych predykcyjnych. Badanie dotyczyło wpływu zmian w czasie na dochody. W analizach wykorzystano dane z Polskiego FADN z okresu 2004–2012. Uzyskane wyniki potwierdziły rosnący wpływ dotacji na dochód w gospodarstwach rolnych. Analiza funkcjonalna pozwoliło nam określić, jak wygląda zróżnicowanie dochodów gospodarstw rolnych w latach 2004–2012. Poza tym udało się również wyróżnić województwa wyraźnie odstające od pozostałych ze względu na badaną cechę. Stwierdzono podobieństwa w przebiegu zmian dochodu w województwach od roku 2004. W pracy potwierdzono ogólne stwierdzenie, że znaczną część dochodów w polskim rolnictwie stanowią płatności. Nie udało się jednak stwierdzić kierunku wykorzystywania dopłat, ale wynikało to ze specyfiki danych. W pracy użyto zaawansowanych metod statystycznych: funkcjonalnej analizy składowych głównych i funkcjonalnej analizy regresji. Analizy przeprowadzono w pakiecie R-CRAN.

The primary aim of this paper is to determine the income changes in agricultural regions in the period from 2004 to 2012. In the first part of the paper, we have summarised the income dynamics in various provinces in Poland. The dynamics is elaborated in terms of income’s level, pace and acceleration. In the second part, we take into account some predictor variables. We have investigated the time-varying impact on income using a functional concurrent regression model. We used data from the Polish FADN. Our conclusions relate to 50% of typical farms in Poland in terms of the time-varying mean income of provinces. The analysis was performed in the R-CRAN.

We apply the functional principal component analysis to compare the unemployment rate in euro area, Japan and USA since 2005 to 2012. For preprocessing analysis we used B-splines system with roughness penalty for smoothing the data. The analysis enables to reveal the most important type of variation in unemployment rate and its pace's in examined countries.

Our paper is devoted to the study of V-Box Chart method in a parametric model. This algorithm is proposed to be used in the change-point detection in a sequence of observations. The choice of parameters in such an algorithm is heuristic. In our paper we use the mini-max rule for this choice and we control the probability that no signal is given, when the process is out of control as well as the probability of false alarm. We apply this algorithm to the detection of a change in stock exchange data.

Quarterly employment rates in European countries are analysed in terms of the likelihood of achieving a specific employment rate within age and gender groups in a five-year horizon. The German employment rate serves as a benchmark for this research. The likelihood is estimated by a Monte-Carlo simulation based on the class of exponential smoothing models. The research presents a pessimistic prognosis of employment rates in European countries with respect to young and partly to older workers.
