This article examines the architectural and exhibition concepts of the national pavilions of Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, Belarus and Ukraine, which were created for the purposes of the World Expo exhibitions in the years 2000-2020 in the context of the promoted national image. After 1991 and the collapse of the USSR, the countries of Eastern Europe began the process of creating their own national images, in which the World Expo exhibitions became one of the most important platforms for international presentations. The article discusses selected exhibition strategies presented by these countries at six exhibitions: World Expo 2000 in Hanover, World Expo 2005 in Aichi, World Expo 2010 in Shanghai, World Expo 2015 in Milan and World Expo in Dubai 2020. The analysis of solutions was carried out from the perspective of searching for unique forms that distinguish the concepts of individual pavilions. The result of the research was the specification of the tendencies that distinguish pavilions of Eastern European countries from other solutions.

Pierwsza wystawa światowa (Wielka Wystawa – „The Great Exhibition”) zorganizowana w Londynie od 1maja do 15 października 1851 r. była ekspozycją, prezentująca dokonania ludzkości, zarówno w sferze kultury, jak i techniki. Przedstawiono szereg wynalazków oraz produktów przemysłowych. Wśród nich znalazł się polski kadm, pochodzący z hut cynku Konstanty i Pod Będzinem z Zachodniego Okręgu Górniczego Królestwa Polskiego. Produkt ten – „w postaci kruszcu” – został wyróżniony przez organizatorów wystawy.

The first world exhibition (“The Great Exhibition”), organized in London from 1 May to 15 October 1851, was an exhibition presenting the achievements of humanity, both in the sphere of culture and in the technology. A number of inventions and industrial products were presented. One of them was Polish cadmium, originating from the zinc smelters “Konstanty” and “Pod Będzinem” from the Western Mining Region of the Kingdom of Poland. This product – “in the form of ore” – was honoured by the organizers of the exhibition.

The study presents an analysis of the economic and political aspects of the organisation of world exhibitions. Exhibition financing models used in different countries are presented. The influence of political factors on the shaping of exhibition grounds and facilities and the benefits obtained by cities from the organisation of exhibitions have been shown on selected examples.

Na wybranych przykładach pokazano wpływ czynników politycznych na kształtowanie terenów i obiektów wystawowych oraz profity płynące z organizacji wystaw dla miast gospodarzy expo.

Nowoczesne technologie, cyfrowe narzędzia pozwalają na przekraczanie barier i wprowadzanie widza w nowy świat, w którym może doświadczać określonych emocji. Wszystkiemu towarzyszy światło, kolor i dźwięk, widz doświadcza wielowymiarowych doznań dzięki nieograniczonej wyobraźni twórców.

This paper presents selected examples of pavilions and the exhibitions presented inside them, which show the wide spectrum of possibilities applied during EXPO 2020 in Dubai. Modern technologies and digital tools allow crossing barriers and introducing the viewer to a new world, where they can experience specific emotions. Everything is accompanied by light, color and sound, the viewer experiences multidimensional sensations thanks to the unlimited imagination of the creators.

In today's world, accessibility poses a challenge for all communities worldwide. The achievements and civilizational progress are periodically showcased at global exhibitions. This article addresses the issue of accessibility for individuals with special needs and the implementation of facilities and solutions for accessibility in the context of the 76th World Expo 2020 in Dubai. The aim of the research undertaken in the article was to conduct a comparative analysis of accessibility within the exhibition space and pavilions, focusing on the occurrence of specific issues within the designated research area. The study also delved into individual cases, considering accessibility in various national pavilions at Expo 2020. The results of the accessibility study, conducted based on pre-established criteria, demonstrated the level of implementation of accessibility concepts within the exhibition space and pavilions from both comparative and problem-oriented perspectives.

Dostępność jest w dzisiejszych czasach wyzwaniem, przed którym stoją wszystkie społeczności świata. Dorobek i rozwój cywilizacyjny prezentowany jest cyklicznie na wystawach światowych. Artykuł dotyczy problematyki dostępności dla osób ze szczególnymi potrzebami oraz realizacji udogodnień i rozwiązań prodostępnościowych w kontekście 76. światowej wystawy EXPO 2020 w Dubaju. Celem badań podjętych w artykule była analiza porównawcza i indywidualnych przypadków w zakresie dostępności przestrzeni wystawy i pawilonów pod kątem występowania i na obszarze badanym danego typu problemu, ale również w ujęciu indywidualnym uwzględniającym badanie dostępności w poszczególnych pawilonach narodowych na Expo 2020. Wyniki badania dostępności za pomocą przygotowanych wcześniej kryteriów pokazały poziom realizacji idei dostępności w przestrzeni i pawilonach wystawy w ujęciu porównawczym i problemowym.
