The end of the Cold War has led to a much-changed international security environment and the emergence of asymmetric threats has dictated the need for a new approach by NATO. The Prague Capability Commitment reaffirmed the need for radical change in NATO. The traditional NATO Area of Responsibility (AOR) has expanded to include missions outside NATO members’ sovereign territory. The AOR and Areas of Interest (AOI) are global. The fulfillment of NATO requirements for geospatial information depends on the acceptance by Nations of their responsibilities for the production and provision of the required geospatial information. Nations are responsible for the production and maintenance of geospatial information designated for use by NATO and for which they have assumed responsibility.
