Design and optimization processes of impellers for diagonal pumps used in cooling water systems of high power generation units have been described. The main criterion in the design process was to attain the maximum efficiency and the best possible suction properties, while fulfilling requirements concerning the impeller strength to loading. The designer has to take into consideration actual conditions of the technological process, in which a cast is made and subjected to treatment, imposing respective safety factors and acceptance conditions in various phases of production.
