In the ferry shipping vessels sail on fixed routes, with big frequencies and in accordance to sailings set in strict time windows. The type of tonnage employed in freight transport (universal and ro-pax ferries), organisation-operational characteristics of ferry shipping and the fluctuation in volumes of freight transport decide about a possible utilisation of transport capacity of vessels and, under the conditions of growing demand for freight transport, about development of tonnage on ferry connections.
