The latest generation of traction drive systems is almost entirely equipped with asynchronous motors with power electronic converters. After years of rather sceptical approach to this technology, it is observed that these systems are gradually becoming more efficient. This fact is mainly concerned with application of maximum load of a converter and thermal load of a motor in order to create a traction characteristic compliant with demands. The paper presents rules and analytical basis for creating a traction characteristic of a vehicle. Two traction characteristics serve as an example here. Both of them are covered in the first zone of control with a constant stator flux. In the second zone, when the flux is reduced, one of these characteristics includes a section on a constant-power hyperbola, while an alternative characteristic includes a section along a line of constant current taken by the controlled machines. Both characteristics are coherent along a line of a torque limit due to the proximity of a break-down torque.

Automotive spark plugs are electric parts connected to high-voltage ignition coil winding able to generate high energy sparks necessary to ignite the air/fuel mixture. Breakdown of the spark plug air gap is one of the effects responsible for ignition noise resulting in electromagnetic interference to vehicle’s electronic systems, including radio receivers. To eliminate the electrical disturbances present with spark discharge automotive spark plugs are provided with an additional resistor connected in series with the center electrode. The noise-suppressing resistor is made of borosilicate glass and conductive particles mixture having significant influence on electric properties of the spark plug. The present paper focuses on investigation of glass seal resistor placement affecting electric field distribution. MATLAB simulation results of potential and electric field strength distribution are presented and discussed.

The aim of the article is focused on assessing the degree of end-of-life for the vehicle front suspension beam. The first stage of the problem taken was represented by a road test of the vehicle at distance expressed by 100.000 km. Following the end of the operation tests, the suspension beam was dismantled and subjected to laboratory tests. The tests demonstrated numerous beam top layer plastic deformations, which came into being as a result of the vehicle driving onto an obstacle on the roadway or onto raised road infrastructure elements. At the point of connection of the stabiliser rod to the beam, surface degradation was noted, which consisted in the considerable change of the surface profile, hardness reduction and the grey and dark brown colour. Corrosion regions and fretting wear traces were noted. Corrosion pits, scratches and material build-ups was observed. The analysis of the chemical composition of wear products demonstrated the presence of elements such as iron, oxygen, chlorine and silicon, as an effect of operational conditions.

Every year too many people lose their lives and health on Polish roads. At best, it only ends with damage to their cars. The number of accidents is very high. Despite the construction of new, safer roads, the number of collisions continues to rise, and death, every year, is suffered by about three thousand accident participants. On average, forty-one thousand people are injured annually. The main causes of accidents are failure to adjust speed to prevailing conditions or traffic regulations, driving under the influence of alcohol and random events, as well as the technical condition of the vehicles. The purpose of the article is to answer the question of how the technical condition of the vehicles affects traffic safety. For this reason, an assessment of the technical condition of vehicles during a periodic examination at a vehicle inspection station was made. Based on the study, it can be concluded that the largest percentage of defects detected during the examination is in the tire 40% and steering 40%, defects that are particularly important from the point of view of traffic safety, which were demonstrated during the examination.

This paper concerns the impact of coil factors on a hydraulic electric inerter-based vehicle suspension. A hydraulic electric inerter device is first introduced, and the dynamic model of a quarter car is established. Subsequently, the influences of the coil factors on the body acceleration, suspension working space and dynamic tire load are investigated in both the time and frequency domain. Results show that the coil factors have a slight effect on the vehicle suspension performance, decreasing the root-mean-square (RMS) of the vehicle body acceleration and increasing the RMS of the suspension working space and dynamic tire load.

A theory of cumulated fuel consumption in process ofvehicle operation is described. The method of creation the mathematical model and procedure of determination of model variables is shown. The mainfeatures of cumulated fuel consumption are painted attention. li is shown that the theory of cumulated fuel consumption can be use to description of the fuel consumption from beginning the exploitation of vehicles and also for the situation when the vehicle are in exploitation from any time and further fuel consumption are unknown. An example of utilisation of elaborated theory for assessment of operation of passenger car is also presented. It has been shown that applying the theory of cumulated fuel consumption, the course of such consumption can be accurately described also in this case. This proposal can be formulated in spite of making some simplifications. This is because the unknown value of the accumulated fuel before start the time of observation operation will be determined using the average (from the average) fuel consumption. This simplification greatly facilitates the flow of the calculations and it seems does not offend errors in the calculations. Method of determining the average is discussed in the article. It appears that such treatment may be justified by the fact that the mistake is, in principle, systematic error. Very high coefficients of mathematical model to fit the measured data are very interesting. Such regularity was observed during researches in buses transport [l], intercity buses, and the fleets of various vehicles (the results of researches are not yet published). The introduction of the theory of cumulated fuel consumption as one of the important parameters to assess the operation of the vehicle or vehicles may also be useful in exploitation researches. At present times the researches in which the vehicles are already in service and the engine control mops are tuned (chip tuning), are made. A good performance of these changes is often observed on chassis dyno but that is not properly sanctioned in natural exploitation. Experimentation with such issue is underway and will be the subject of future analysis (and publications).

A filter system is presented which allows the reduction of the concentration of ultrafine particles in vehicle cabins to very low levels. The original ventilation system is switched to the recirculation mode and all cabin intake air is supplied via a retrofitted filter system. Tests with a variety of different vehicles (from passenger cars to coaches) show the efficiency of the system. Filters incorporated in present ventilation systems remove large particles, for example pollen, but usually are inefficient for removing very small particles. This is demonstrated by Fig. l, where the particle number concentration outside and inside a car is plotted during a journey near Zurich. It is obvious that the concentrations inside and outside are more or less identical. All windows were closed during this measurement. Tests with a number ofdifferent all cars showed similar results. The filters included in today 's ventilation systems usually cannot remove nanoparticles, and so vehicle cabin indoor and outdoor nanoparticle concentrations are more or less identical. The nanocleaner, consisting of a very effident filter and a high performance blower, allows reduction of the particle concentration in the cabin from several hundreds of thousands or millions per cc. to a few thousand per cc., equivalent to remote woodland, the total exposed dose being reduced by some two orders of magnitude.

The armedforces involvement in stabilization operations conducted either in Europe (Kosovo) or in Africa (Iraq) or in Asia (Afghanistan) caused uncovering of weak points of the used equipment which was not constructed for the purpose of partisan war. This fact resulted in equipment modernisation in the form of additional armouring and protection against mines and improvised explosive devise as well as in NATO adopting the standards determining the protection level assuring by the given vehicle. The most popular military standard in the scope of ballistic protection against the pressure wave coming from a mine or improvised explosive device detonation is standard NATO -STANAG 4569. This standard determines to a great degree also the charge size and position. Civil solutions are based not on the evaluation of the vehicle destruction level but on the evaluation of some parameters determining the injuries of the human moving in a vehicle which had an accident. These parameters will be used to evaluate the injuries of the human moving in a lightarmoured vehicular personnel carrier which is subjected to the influence of wave pressure wave coming from the detonation of a mine or improvised explosive device. The finite elements model of a dummy Hybrid III 95% Male and Ls-Dyna software will be used for this purpose. There will be considered the complex model in which there is not only a human and vehicle model but also a charge, air and ground.

EN
As a rule, a railway vehicle is considered as a system consisting of solid bodies when spatial oscillations are mathematically modelled. Such bodies in a freight four-axle car with three-piece bogies are: a car body, bolsters, side frames, wheelsets. When describing a mathematical model, certain assumptions are being usually made as to absence of linear or angular relative movements of bodies in a system. The suggested model takes into account all types of relative movements in all directions (3 linear and 3 angular ones). The types of braces are assumed to be as follows: the elastic brace, the dissipative one, dry friction ones, or their combinations. If it is necessary to restrict body movements in whatever direction, the brace parameter is given as equal to the structure's rigid characteristic. The 'wheel-rail' contact is considered as a specific kind of brace. Thus, the unification of description of braces among system parts can be obtained - in this way simplifying modelling as a whole. Appropriate computer software has been developed. The software debugging was done by means of setting single vertical and horizontal rail irregularities. It made possible correcting the types and parameters for chosen braces among bodies of the system. During the calculation process, stochastic vertical and horizontal irregularities on rails were set. The results of theoretical studies and experiments have been compared. The adequate correlation of all dynamic features compared has been obtained.
