In this publication, we adduce examples of the use of hyperbaric oxygen therapy in urinary tract diseases. Hyperbaric oxygen therapy has been proved to have a positive influence on the kidneys of animals with diabetes, sepsis or undergoing chemotherapy. In the literature, we can also find many examples of the use of hyperbaric therapy with good clinical outcomes in human patients with prostatic hypertrophy, pyelonephritis, and hemorrhagic cystitis. The first trials of this kind of treatment of urinary tract diseases were started at the end of the twentieth century. In spite of the promising results, and numerous reports on the effectiveness of this non-invasive method of treatment, it is not currently used on a regular basis. Because many factors such as time, multiple applications, the parameters used in the hyperbaric chamber as well as the medications taken by the patient affect the quality of the result, further studies are needed to make hyperbaric therapy more suitable and safer for each patient.

Praca przytacza przykłady zastosowania terapii hiperbarycznej w leczeniu chorób układu moczowego. Dowiedziono pozytywne efekty na nerki przy zastosowaniu jej u zwierząt chorych na cukrzycę, sepsę czy poddanych chemoterapii. W literaturze możemy odnaleźć również wiele przykładów zastosowania terapii hiperbarycznej z dobrym efektem klinicznym u ludzi chorych na przerost prostaty, odmiedniczkowe zapalenie nerek, oraz w krwotocznym zapaleniu pęcherza. Próby leczenia chorób układu moczowego za pomocą terapii hiperbarycznej rozpoczęły się pod koniec XX wieku. Pomimo obiecujących efektów oraz licznych doniesień na temat skuteczności tej nieinwazyjnej metody leczenia nie jest ona dotychczas rutynowo stosowana. Ponieważ wiele czynników takich jak czas, wielokrotność zastosowania, zastosowane parametry oraz leki przyjmowane przez pacjenta wpływają na jakość wyniku, potrzebne są dalsze badania mające na celu dopracowanie i dobranie bezpiecznej metody terapii hiperbarycznej dla każdego pacjenta.

Thirty nine isolates of Escherichia coli, twenty two isolates of Klebsiella pneumoniae and sixteen isolates of Pseudomonas aeruginosa isolated from urinary tract infected patients were analyzed by antimicrobial susceptibility typing and random amplified polymorphic DNA (RAPD)-PCR. Antibiotic susceptibility testing was carried out by microdilution and E Test methods. From the antibiotic susceptibility, ten patterns were recorded (four for E. coli, three for K. pneumoniae and three for P. aeruginosa respectively). Furthermore, genotyping showed seventeen RAPD patterns (seven for E. coli, five for K. pneumoniae and five for P. aeruginosa respectively). In this study, differentiation of strains of E. coli, K. pneumoniae and P. aeruginosa from nosocomial infection was possible with the use of RAPD.

Przedstawiono zwiększone ryzyko zachorowania na raka z nabłonka przejściowego drog moczowych przy współdziałaniu czynników: palenie tytoniu, spożywanie alkoholu i skażenia przemysłowe.

Risk of urothelial cell carcinoma in tobacco smokers, particularly in those exposed to some other carcinogenic agents has been analysed. The analysis comprised 131 patients treated for bladder carcinoma and 5 patients treated tor urothelial cell carcinoma at the Urology Department, Regional Hospital of Szczecin. The results point to a very high risk of urothelial carcinoma in patients exposed to three carcinogens and to the occurrence of the disease in patients below 50 years of age.
