The social changes throughout the twentieth century had provoked uneven development of cities within the former Czechoslovakia. Each of the political regimes that alternated at the periodicity of approximately twenty years had marked, through the ideology, not only the ethnic and social profile of the city and its districts, but also their urbanistic and architectonical characteristics, symbolism and the outer appearance of the streets. As a result, important changes occurred in the spatial division of the city as well as the identity of city spaces. The author analyzes the impacts of social changes on the spatial diversity of the city and social composition of its districts from the beginning of the twentieth century, but focuses especially on the processes of transformation of the post-socialist city and its present state. Analyses the role of local memory in the politics of the self-government of the city and in the attitudes and activities of its inhabitants.

With the advent of Climate Change and Global Warming, highly populated urban spaces are becoming more prone to various Environmental disasters. While forest are good sinks of CO2, it is highly impossible to introduce them into urban-level planning. In this context, nurturing Urban Green Spaces within cities, can serve well to perform the regulatory functions just like forests do. However, it is also imperative that their inception, must also ensure effective carbon sequestration. The objective of current research includes determination of carbon sequestration value for various ‘tree’ species, which eventually would serve to identify species with potential to serve better in Strategic Climate Sustainable Township Guidelines. To accomplish this objective, firstly three observatories (Richard’s Park, BMSIT&M Green Campus, and Lalbagh Botanical Garden) having distinct floral diversity were selected. Further, physical data collection was undertaken at these observatories and employed for biomass computation viz. ‘Biostatistics-based Allometric’ equation. Statistical Validation of data was accomplished viz. Multiple Linear Regression Modelling and One-way ANOVA. The average value of carbon sequestered (in tonnes per species) was found to be 20.13, 0.727 and 0.292, at Lalbagh Botanical Garden, Richard’s Park, and BMSIT&M, respectively. Upon comprehensive evaluation, it was found that best three species offering high carbon sequestration potential are Eucalyptus grandis, Eucalyptus globus and Samanea saman. These species would hence be keystone species that could play a potential role in naturally lowering CO2 levels in intra-urban spaces. These species would serve well in empowering Green Spaces to behave as Urban Cool Islands, to combat Urban/Global Warming.

There have been formulated goals and foundations of the urban drawing workshop in the education program of student architect-urban planner, as well as the techniques and methods of implementation of quick sketches. There have been determined the structure of the workshop program, which runs parallel to the semester projects: the first year sketches include small forms and detail, the second year - historical villas districts; in the third year - urban spaces (streets, courtyards, squares) and panoramas of the city.

Sformułowane cele i założenia dotyczą warsztatów z rysunku urbanistycznego w programie edukacji studenta architekta-urbanisty, a także techniki i metody realizacji szybkich szkiców. Określono strukturę programową warsztatów, która biegnie równolegle do projektów semestralnych: na pierwszym roku szkice obejmują małe formy i detal, na drugim roku - historyczną zabydowę willową; na trzecim roku – wnętrza urbanistyczne (ulice, podwórka, place) i panoramy miasta.
