Two-stroke engines used in small applications, in order to fulfill the emission requirements, should be equipped with a direct injection system or pneumatic rich mixture injection system. The FAST system in the Piaggio engines is based on the two-throat carburetor. Till now the Piaggio company has not published the physical processes taking place in such engines. The author has carried out the deep study of the process of rich mixture injection by an additional compressor and the results of calculations are presented in the paper. The simulation was done by using of the own computer program based on the mathematical model taking into account the unsteady gas flow of semi-perfect gas, the changed parameters of engine geometry and controlled parameters. The paper includes description of the fuelling system, mathematical model, calculation algorithm, results of calculations for different controlled parameters and comparison with other systems. The FAST computer program enables to define the characteristics of the cylinder charge, engine power, fuel consumption and exhaust gas composition. The simple mechanical fuelling system without electronic participation enables to apply it for the engines driven the small vehicles. However the drive of the compressor by tooth belt from the engine crankshaft decreases the total engine power about 20%.

W artykule przedstawiono historię powojennego rozwoju zakładu w Bielsku-Białej, produkującego dwusuwowe silniki spalinowe. Opisano złożone i zmienne zależności organizacyjne w przemyśle samochodowym. Na tle rozwoju konstrukcji silników o różnym przeznaczeniu, szczegółowo przedstawiono przebieg zmian w procesach technologicznych związanych z ich produkcją. Tradycje w zakresie produkcji silników spalinowych w tej części Polski były kontynuowane przez FSM i FAP, a obecnie przez nowoczesne zakłady produkcyjne Fiat-GM Powertrain Polska i Fiat Powertrain Technologies Polska.

Process of gasoline mixture combustion in two-stroke engines is much more complicated than in four stroke engines. In order to decrease fuel consumption and exhaust gas emission, particularly hydrocarbons, two-stroke engines should have direct fuel injection systems. The paper presents results of both simulation and experimental tests on a small power gasoline two-stroke engine. The special high pressure injection system was elaborated in Cracow University of Technology for engine with capacity 115 cm3. The most important factor in such engine is small time for fuel evaporation and obtaining a homogeneous mixture in the combustion chamber. The gas flow in the cylinder (tumble and swirl) causes a certain deviation of fuel stream during injection and therefore location of the injector has big significance on the combustion process. The paper shows results of fuel distribution in the cylinder for different crank angles obtained from spatial simulation (KIVA3V) and propagation of the flame during combustion process. Experimental work was carried out on the engine in order to determine influence of injection parameters on engine work and combustion process. On the basis of pressure traces at different loads and rotational speeds heat release rates were calculated and Vibe functions were found. The paper presents the engine experimental stand and results of decreasing of important exhaust gases components at the same engine working parameters as in carburetted engine.

The paper presents the theoretical model of the filling process of two stroke engine by a valve in the piston head. The impact engine revolution and air pressure on filling processes parameters is shown. The simulation results shown that the air mass in the cylinder after filling process is depend on the air pressure in the inlet manifold only. The valves opening and closing phases are strongly depend on the inlet air pressure.

W referacie opisano model teoretyczny i wyniki badań symulacyjnych dotyczących zjawisk towarzyszących procesowi wymiany ładunku w silniku dwusuwowym, z samoczynnym zaworem umieszczonym w denku tłoka. Pokazano wpływ prędkości obrotowej i ciśnienia ładowania na fazy otwarcia zaworu i wymianę ładunku w silniku.
