W artykule przedstawiono sposoby przeobrażeń przestrzeni miejskiej przez adaptacje funkcjonalne istniejących kubatur zorganizowanej tkanki urbanistycznej oraz lokalizacje kampusów akademickich. Przedstawione w artykule przykłady lokalizacji kampusów akademickich mogą stanowić znaczące materiały analityczne we współczesnym planowaniu przestrzennym małych i średnich miast.

The paper presents new ways of spatial transformation of a town through functional adaptation of existing urban structures for academic campuses. Small and medium towns are a basic elements of urban network in Poland. In last fifteen years, many of them were severely weakened by a collapse in local industry - place of work for most of the habitants. In particularly bad position are towns which have lost the economical support of a large factories, employing often a few thousands of workers. The remaining building tissue, mostly abandoned, create a serious socio-economical problem. Development of academic campuses in small and medium towns is, in Poland, a fairly new tendency, demanding new way of looking at the aims of urban planning. Analysis of the areas for possible of adaptation for education purposes, can be used during the planning process of spatial composition in small and medium towns. Another phenomenon influencing functional transformations of build tissue, is degradation of ex-military areas. Mentioned above two types of areas make a serious problem ibr towns administration. Regulation and upgrading projects for these territories are usually based on local planning decisions (decisions on building conditions or decisions on public building location), because outdated local master plans cannot be applied in administration procedures. Examples of new localizations of educational functions presented in this paper may become an analytical support for contemporary spatial planning of small and medium towns.

Obecnie w Polsce w kontekście realizowania osiedli mieszkaniowych brakuje form regulacji ze strony wspólnoty samorządowej na poziomie projektu zagospodarowania. Określałyby one nowo tworzony układ miejskiej przestrzeni publicznej dla powstającego zespołu zabudowy na podstawie struktury urbanistycznej większej jednostki urbanistycznej. Na studialnych opracowaniach zaprezentowano wyniki poszukiwań zmian funkcjonalnych i przestrzennych urbanistycznej plomby na wytypowanym terenie przekształceń – miejskiej zajezdni autobusowej w warszawskiej dzielnicy Mokotów.

Currently, in Poland, in the context of the implementation of housing estates, there are no forms of regulation on the part of the local government community at the level of the development project defining the newly created layout of urban public space for the emerging development complex, based on the urban structure of the larger urban unit. The study presents the results of the search for functional and spatial changes in the urban infill (titled seal) in the selected area of transformation – the Municipal Bus Depot in Warsaw’s Mokotów district.
