While the main goal of the primary school is to educate, the school’s cooperation with the local community and the pupils’ families goes beyond the realization of its educational role. The establishment of a working relationship between these three key institutions of social life can foster proper personal development of children who are raised in such an environment. That process can in turn can result in better educational attainment of those children. If a well-educated person (not necessarily in the academic sense) is greatly valued in any kind of society, his/her status is even higher in the modern, knowledge-based world. Based on a research project in the Tarnów county in southern Poland, this article attempts to examine various aspects of the interaction between school and the local community.
In the opinion, the author stated that the “Göring Decree”, which discriminates against the Polish minority in Germany, has not been in force in the Federal Republic of Germany for a long time due to its incompatibility with the German Constitution. This does not change the fact that there are still unresolved issues related to the rights of the Polish minority, such as its non-recognition in German law, the non-payment of compensation to the descendants of victims of the Third Reich and the lack of compensation for the loss of property of members of the Polish minority during this period.
Military schools were established in Poland in the eighteenth century. They were just a few of the various levels of teaching and the organization. They were not able to provide an adequate number of trained officers of the Polish army, and therefore there were demands of the reform of military education, and one of the projects was presented by Hugo Kołłątaj. He proposed increasing the number of military schools and subjecting them under the suzerainty of the educational authorities.
The aim of the article is to show a role and importance of a family background in a school child education. This work concerns aspects of family functioning which influence entire development of the child. Among the most essential factors there are: a structure of the family, implementation of its basic functions, emotional relationships in the family as well as parenting styles. Furthermore, the article focuses on areas of the family life which may cause the student’s failure in education, including: material conditions, cultural background of the family, pathologies and crisis in upbringing, parents’ marriage breakdown and social poverty of the mother and the father. Undoubtedly, the author places a particular importance on both the family which raises a mentally-disabled child and the role of the family environment in a process of rehabilitation.
