The paper presents and describes psychological tests from the Vienna Test System, which – after a psychometric analysis – came out as reliable and valid for job selection for difficult and dangerous occupations. These tests assess abilities and efficiencies previously found crucial for performing such jobs safely. They are Standard Progressive Matrices (SPM), 2 Hand, Signal, DAUF and ALS. Manuals for SPM, 2 Hand and Signal tests have been published by CIOP-PIB. A manual for the other two tests is being prepared.

The issue of testing and analyzing the impact of road signs on the drivers’ behaviour and traffic conditions has been the subject of experimental analyses for many years. The most common analyzes concern the road-side environment and the visibility aspects as well as adequate message transmission. The following paper presents the psychological aspects that can be used as a basis for the development of guidelines for evaluating the communicative nature of road signs and its impact on the drivers behavioural changes with-in the road sign marking area. Both the characteristics of the individual, being relevant for the perception of the road-side reality and the characteristics of the environment related to these aspects, have been discussed.

Personal protective equipment worn by uniformed services (e.g., the police and the military) must ensure protection against bodily injuries. However, a high degree of protection is always associated with significant discomfort. This article presents the results of an assessment of the ergonomics parameters of new special purpose products, ballistic inserts with improved ballistic resistance, and an assessment of the impact of the burden related to their use on the psychomotor performance of the subjects. An obstacle course and subjective ergonomics assessment questionnaires were used in tests. Thermal discomfort was also assessed. Psychological testing included tests enabling an assessment of the subjects' cognitive and psychomotor performance, and a subjective assessment of mental load. The tests did not show any decrease in the comfort of use of the new inserts with improved ballistic resistance compared to the inserts currently used.

Firstly the idea of objective psychological tests and their characteristics related to various features of human psychophysiology are introduced. Examples of objective tests are given. Next application of data mining algorithms to analyse data obtained from different tests are outlined. The general concept of a computer system for objective psychological studies of psychomotoric processes in humans is then described. Finally the possibility of implementation of the system in medical and psychoacoustical studies is pointed out.

Presented work is primarily oriented on the experimental verification of the influence of fatigue on the psychological condition of the flying personnel, using psychological and performance tests. For the evaluation of a pilot performance, the 24 hours experiment was conducted. In total, eight subjects participated in the experimental measurements. Eight participants went through several tests, including simulator flights, to investigate the effects of the fatigue on the results of psychological measurements. Measurements included workload evaluation, using NASA task load evaluation concept and performance testing, using the so-called OR-test. Significant statistical differences between measurements performed during 24 hours were not found in the case of NASA task load Scores. In the case of OR-test, Friedman ANOVA and subsequent post-hoc analysis show that the greatest decrease in performance was observed in approximately 22 hours of wakefulness, i.e. approximately in half of the measuring process. The concept of 24-hour measurements for the quantification of fatigue is not commonly used yet as well as objectivization using performance testing. As the apparent effect of fatigue is mainly on performance testing results, it can be argued that this work could serve as a basis for further studies on fatigue. Also, it could serve as a support for introducing new pilots' psychological testing procedures in the future, which could contribute to current efforts to improve aviation safety.
