The base of the paper is series of the measurement of air temperature at the Jagiellonian University climatological station, collected since 1792. Average values were completed and verified. Generally, during the 19th century the monthly temperatures from November to March were lower than later.May, June and August showed the small air temperature fall. In July, September and October the long-term tendency is close on the point of nought. Each monthly course of the air temperature appears the considerable fluctuation from year to year.

The courses of daily air temperature at the centre of Lublin (UMCS station) and outskirts (Hajdów station) have been compared based on 1996 datas. The temperature, in average in the most part of the 24 hours period, is higher at the centre than at the outskirts. The highest differences are almost I.s"C and occur between 20.00 and 4.00. The temperature at the both stations between 8.00 and 13.00 is similar.

The cooling equipment so far used in Polish coal mines has been replaced. Presented is the principle of operation of a cooling equipment unit by way of example of the LKM2-290 unit of Wende + Malter make. Undertaken has been an attempt of comparing the domestic cooling equipment of direct-operation system to that imported. Also presented are advantages and disadvantages of the cooling equipment in question as well as other factors that must be taken into account in the purchase procedure.

The study seeks to provide an explanation of why days with thunderstorms are less frequent at the close of June and the beginning of July in Poznań. Use was made of daily data from the Poznań- Ławica weather station of the Institute of meteorology and Water management (IMGW) from the years 1961-1990 on the occurrence of days with thunderstorms and diurnal means of air temperature and vapour pressure. The results of the study suggest that one of the immediate causes of the lower frequency of days with thunderstorms at the close of June and the beginning of July in Poznań in the period concerned is the increase in the number of days with mean diurnal temperature and vapour pressure lower than the lowest means of those meteorological elements for days with thunderstorms.

In this paper relationships between temperature field in Europe and circulation generated by Asiatic High wedges over Scandinavia were investigated. In the preliminary stage of the study, according to appropriate synoptic criteria, the cases of Scandinavian wedge occurrence in the period between December and March (1946-1994), were identified. In order to characterize temperature variability influenced by the wedges, maps of daily temperature anomalies were used. The analysis of thermal properties of the airstream at 850 hPa isobaric level generated by the wedge was carried out on the basis of streamlines and isotachs pattern as well as temperature field during the wedge occurrence. Special attention was paid to the following points: 1. Asiatic High wedge over Scandinavia brings about a decrease in mean daily temperature at 850 hPa level within the aector 45 - 60 N, 5 - 30 E, that is in the middle-latitude belt which covers the Central and Northern Europe. The highest negative anomalies occur in March (-7 C), while the lowest ones in February (-3,5 C). It is due to the fact that in March the northeastern cold current over Central Europe originates in the eastern sector of Scandinavian High, in February, however the source region for the stream is located north of the Caspian and the Black Sea. 2. Couple pressure system: the Scandinavian wedge - a low a trough of low pressure in the eastern Mediteranean forces a flow of cold air to move southwestwards to the Central Europe. 3. In the eastern sector of the low coupled with the Scandinavian wedge (in the region of the Caspian Sea) a temperature increase is observed, which is equal to 3-4 C in December, January, March and 1,5 C in February. Although the daily temperature anomalies associated with the Scandinavian wedge are statistically significant, owing to its short-lived and episodic character (if this system occurs it lasts 4 days during one month on average), it shouldn't be treated as an important factor affecting the dynamics of climate in Poland and Europe.

The aim of the paper is to determine (on the base of the data of the air temperature from 58 meteorological stations): -the periodical changes (from 1 to 30 years) of the air temperature over Poland within a period of 1951-1990 in the climatological seasons and in the year, -identification of causes of the short-term oscillations of the air temperature - pointed out the synchronous cycles of the air temperature, atmospheric circulation and solar activity. The Boryczka's method of 'regression sinusoids' has been used. The spectral analysis shows that over Poland a few cyclical components with meaningful ranges have been observed. These are cycles: 2-, 3-, 6-, 8-, 10-, 14-16-years. Their presence in all chronological progressions and synchronous (the same periods and phases), particularly 8-years cycle, imply thesis, that periodicity is typical feature of temperature field over Poland. The synchronous (concurrence of periods and coincidence of extremums) of 8- and 11-years component of air temperature changes with the solar activity can testify that solar conditions determine these changes. The researches suppose that periodical changes of the air temperature over Poland are conditioned by the corresponding cycles of atmospheric circulation.

The presumption of this publication is description of the air temperature in Szczecin in the period 1836-1995. On the basis of 160-year series, the change of climatic epoch in 19th and 20th century was described and perennial cycles in air temperature were defined. For this purpose, various statistical methods were used. Analysis indicates, that seasonally and yearly changes of air temperature in research periods in Szczecin are quite strong variable: -The perennial variability in air temperature of cold seasons is considerably bigger than warm seasons. -On the whole length of 160-year series there is lack of extremely warm periods. The most frequently occurring are the moderate years and seasons. -The quasi 7-year cycle of air temperature was confirmed.

Statistical methods used in the work have confirmed the results of study on the observed climate of Poland. According to the analysis which was carried on the topic distinguishing fluctuations of temperature changes in July and winter occurred. At the end of 80 ties winter warning because of its resistance take the features of an important climate anomaly. The cumulative deviations described by O.A Drozdov and A.S. Grigorieva have proved the existence of significant tendency in winter months. The growing tendency of the last decade is characteristic for the whole winter season. Hot summers of the last decade have disturbed the tendency of falling temperatures of the summer in Poland. The significant tendency of fluctuating air temperatures which were observed on the basis of cumulative deviations in June end July only. There haven't been observed any significant temperature fluctuations in other summer months as well as in the whole summer season.
