The contents of the article deals with a general way how to use organisational techniques in the practice of commanding. Numerous references to organisations not connected with the military have lead to describe realistically the use of organisational approaches in the military’. The article also contains information on limitations in the use of organisational techniques and the ways to check the effects of their application. Finally, the article points out that it is sometimes enough to take advantage of the classics’ studies on organisation and management in order to create innovative organisational solutions. The range of applying organisational techniques in the military presented in the article includes all levels in the subunit's structure. Depending on how general organisational techniques are, the width of the application range is different. The widest application range refers to the most universal techniques which may be effectively applied both to individual soldiers on the lowest levels of military hierarchy and in the course of organising work for particular cells on medium and high levels of commanding. Difficulties that commanders responsible for their subunits' functioning face do not only result from techniques’ assumptions. The opinion of the need to apply techniques and thus the attitude to use modern organisational solutions is the basic factor that decides how effective the organisational techniques are.
