Content available remote Project management tasks in agile projects: a quantitative study

Recent studies have confirmed the efficacy of agile methodologies in project success. However, can projects skip several project management tasks and still deliver the expected results? How are traditional project managers engaged in agile projects? The results from this study quantify subjective and theoretical speculation on who performs the project management tasks in agile projects. Project managers are engaged in agile projects and the team, the product owner, and project sponsor are significantly involved in project management tasks. The agile coach is not a substitute for the project manager. The study identifies that agile and traditional methodologies should be updated to clarify team, product owner, and agile coach responsibilities.

Organizations are looking for ways of establishing agile and lean delivery processes. In this paper, we propose a particular way which based on self-service kits (SSK's). The SSK approach can be used to share expert knowledge in an agile and scalable way to the teams by offering them approaches, methods and tools with background information about the addressed topic. An SSK is provided as a digital bundle of artifacts that help solving an issue related to agile teams. Built upon the pull-principle, it supports team autonomy during teams' delivery procedures. An SSK addresses generic as well as domain specific topics. As all SSK's share a common structured approach to supporting an agile organization, they help systematically scaling expert knowledge. This leverages establishing best practices elaborated by experts in a large scale organization in a native agile manner. As an SSK is structured as a ``how-to'' guide including templates for learning by doing, it helps emphasizing quality aspects too. We demonstrate an example of the systematic application of the SSK approach as well as its scaling in the Volkswagen Group IT.

A participatory ergonomics model was designed for improving working conditions, quality, and productivity in a medium-sized manufacturing enterprise by making use of Supportive Expert Team (SET). In order to implement the model, a team-based structure consisting of a Steering Committee (SC) and 2 Action Groups (AGs) was designed and a 5-phase methodology followed. To validate the model, a similar factory was selected as control. Performance of the model was successful throughout the project. AGs under the supervision of the SC and the support of the SET designed and implemented several ergonomics solutions using local resources. Our findings showed that, in comparison with the control factory, application of such a model could be considered as a provider of a more humanized work environment as well as a more efficient and cost-effective approach.

Team working is the basic way of working in the control rooms of hazardous technologies and therefore its quality is a safety-relevant issue. In addition to the technological competence it is also crucial for the crews to have the necessary communicational skills. During simulator training these skills can only be improved if the simulator use is embedded in an appropriate setting. To support this skill acquisition a computer-supported methodology called COSMOS (COmputer Supported Method for Operators’ Self-assessment) has been developed. With its help more effective communication and more complete shared mental models can be fostered. This paper is a report on the psychological fundamentals and the mathematical model of the COSMOS methodology.

Authorship is not an unknown concept in the history of the Mediterranean culture. As a matter of fact the phenomenon of authorship has been present since the ancient times and is much older than its protection. An interdisciplinary dialogue about protection and codification of copyrightlaw began some five hundred years ago and led to an effective sustainable development in the entire Mediterranean area, playing in modern times a role of the cultural heritage. What is authorship today? Is it still a valid category? Who owns the movie rights? The essay introduces discussions on issues that are bound to engage readers attention (e.g. author’s definition, copyright owner, media production, art of moving image, team working, collective creation, attribution, etc.) and provide a stimulating new way into exploring key concepts of copyright law in film and new media.

Podstawowy kierunek rozważań poświęconych sytuacji autora w kulturze nowożytnej wyznacza teza, iż fenomen autorstwa stanowi podstawę funkcjonowania i rozwoju kultury Zachodu zarówno w czasach współczesnych, jak i w kontekście jej wielowiekowej tradycji sięgającej świata antyku. Autorstwo traktowane jako funkcja i własność intelektualna dzieła posiada wymiar symboliczny i autoteliczny, realizując własne zadania i cele w ramach danego systemu kultury. Teleologia autorstwa, z jaką mamy do czynienia w sztuce i nauce, jest źródłem szczególnie cennych wartości społecznych, dlatego powinna stać się obiektem pieczołowitej ochrony i troski państwa. Wprawdzie prawo autorskie wchodzi w skład domeny prawa prywatnego, jednak wyższego rzędu wartość, jaką wnosi wszelka twórczość do życia danej zbiorowości, czyni zarówno wymiar sprawiedliwości, jak i wszelkie instytucje państwowe odpowiedzialnymi za jej mądrą i skuteczną ochronę.
