The paper presents the history of sound breakthrough that took place in the Interwar Years in Central Europe cinematography. In his comparative approach, the author discusses the introduction of talkies to the Czechoslovakian, Hungarian, and Polish cinemas against the wide-ranging background of the then technological and economical changes, with respect to cultural and political tensions, as well as with audiosphere richness of the previous epoch. The argument each time starts with an anecdote that, similar to a lens, magnifies the general processes and challenges of the sound film, for instance, the changes in the production process in addition to experiments with „internationalising” films produced in vernacular languages.
