Memories of professor Stanielewicz go back to the year 1946 – day of arise of Trade Academy in Poznań and later on – rise of its branch in Szczecin. Beginning of it was described as well as professors connections with this school. Professor describes breakaway and transformation of Szczecin’s Academy to Szczecin Economic High School – its departments, structure and employees. The first postdoctoral degree acquired by professor Grzywacz was described and what is connected to that – dynamic development of scientific personnel of Transport Economics Institute. Information about raising Faculty of Management and Economics of Services after changing from Faculty of Transport and Connection.

Innovations become increasingly important in economic processes. The article presents the holistic relation between the innovation and the needs of transport with the particular emphasis on the impact of interactivity. Also the contemporary perception of the transport sector as an active rather thanpassive process was stressed. By describing such a connection the contribution of Szczecin School of Transport Economics in scientific development of economics of services was presented.

Prof. W. Grzywacz resembles his first superior prof. Małek which he recognizes as a founder of the general transport economics in Szczecin. Although prof. Małek is the main character in the paper prof Grzywacza recalls also the others famous and well – deserved persons either from before and after Second World War times. He dedicates also large part of the paper to development of the transportation economics science in Poland.

The upcoming jubilee in Szczecin connecting with proceeding of 65th anniversary of the tertiary economic education in Western Pomeranian region which will happen in 2011, makes an opportunity to deeper analysis and evaluation of the research, didactic and organisational output of the Szczecin School of Transport Economics. This school puts its roots down up to year 1946. The author of this paper as a person who has collaborated with transport oriented research and education centres in Szczecin since decades, however mainly with the Szczecin University and the Maritime University in Szczecin, being leading centres in this area, takes an attempt to retrospective view on an wide range activity undertaken by the Szczecin School of Transport Economics. In his scrutiny on this subject, the author has focused after all on research and didactic activity as well as output of the Faculty of Management and Economics of Services of the Szczecin University. His close attention attracts, however, Department of Transport Systems and Policy.

Economics of transport has been developed in Szczecin research environment for almost 65 years and still is a diversify research field including all types of transport. The road transport is the crucial transport part and plays key role in scientific analyses and researches. The most important issues and problems regarding this branch of transport are: – information systems in road transport companies, – software system of coordination of truck freight in interregional dimension, – decision structure in road transport companies, – behavior of carriers in a competitive market. – The most spectacular achievements of Szczecin School of Transport are: – creating bonds and shaping cooperation between science institutes and transport companies; – supporting of implementation of the most effective economic and organizational solutions for Polish carries and forwarding agents. The results of activity of Szczecin Transport School in the period of 1946–2010 are: implementing a lot of solutions and concept at central level, implementing the innovative solutions and concepts in transport and forwarding companies, publishing a lot of books, articles and reports; promotion of professors, assistant professors, PhDs, bachelors and MAs.
