Main development of power generation technologies, due to political reasons, is going toward renewable energy resources. However, there are some economical and technical problems, connected with the power generation. The problems limit wide utilization of renewable sources. One of the proposed solutions is grouping of RES into micrgrids - small balanced autonomic power systems. Sources and loads can be linked in the microgrid using DC or AC power lines. Which solution is better? DC or AC? There are a group of issues presented in the paper, which shows the advantages of the DC microgrid and author assumes them as interesting. The main issues described in the paper are power quality, power losses, plants connection, power flow control. It can be shown that there is much easier to solve above problems in case of DC systems then in AC ones, for instance it is possible to prove that power transfer losses can be smaller in DC systems then in AC ones even in LV lines. Also it is possible to limit current distortions generated to the power system. Some disadvantages of the DC systems are also presented. From technical point of view the most important are switches and protection devices. However, the most important problem is change of the system and economical issues.
