Poddano analizie wpływ grubości próbki, B, na poziom krytycznej wartości odporności na pękanie, KJC. Wykazano, że wartość KJC zależna jest od poziomu wielkości TZ i Q, które charakteryzują stan naprężeń w próbce.

Analysed is the influence of a sample thickness, B, on the crack resistance critical value, KJC. There is proved that KJC values are not constant even for the range of thicknesses which meet standard requirements. Ascertained is that KJC value depends on the level of TZ and Q values which characterize stress condition in the sample.

One of the major advantages of microseismic data, recorded during hydraulic fracturing of prospective shale intervals is ability to use both P and S wave in the analysis, not only to determine epicentral locations of events but also to describe source itself. The information about the mechanisms of located microseismic events allows better understanding of in situ stress and strain conditions and the local subsurface geomechanical properties and forces (Kamei et al. 2015). As Duncan stated in his work, a proper characterization of the observed events mechanisms is the key to understand radiation pattern of the signals in the investigated area (Duncan & Eisner 2010). Moreover, an understanding of the nature of the rock failure supports reservoir simulation models and stimulated reservoir volume estimates (Kratz & Thorton 2016). Proper assessment of event strike, dip and rake provides the geometry of the fracture plane assuming double couple focal mechanism, while full moment tensor inversion provides information about shear and tensile nature of the calculated mechanisms. The common method to obtain reliable focal mechanisms of observed microseismic events is decomposing of the full moment tensor. Seismic moment tensor is powerful tool which provides a general mathematical solution of sources that can be used to distinguish between various types of microseismic events. The method comes to reliably estimation of the six independent components of a full moment tensor by lestsquares inversion (Eaton & Forouhideh 2010). The motivation for this analysis was to determine microseismic focal mechanisms based on P – wave peak amplitude, P and S – waves peak amplitudes and S – wave peak amplitude only to estimate the differences and uncertainties between these three different solutions. Furthermore authors decided to check how the mechanisms changes with different geometries of downhole monitoring array. In this study only synthetic data computed in MiVu GeoTomo software using raytracing method and simple layered velocity model were used. The mentioned velocity model was constructed based on well logs data delivered by PGNiG from measurements done in Northern Poland where active exploration of shale gas takes place. In this analysis authors focused only on double couple (DC) and compensated linear vector dipole (CLVD) mechanisms which are two most common types of microseismic focal mechanisms occur during hydraulic fracturing of shale deposits. Performed analysis proved that the best and most consistent results with the lowest uncertainties reflected in the condition number parameter can be obtained by using both P and S peak amplitudes.

In recent years there has been growing interest in selenium (Se) as an important micronutrient not only for animals and humans but also for plants. In particular, its protective effect in plants exposed to stress conditions has been suggested. In spite of many studies, the mechanism of Se action is not fully understood. In this review, possible ways of interaction of Se with stress factors leading to optimal growth and development of plants are presented. As the majority of experiments have focused on the effects of Se application under stress conditions induced by heavy metals, special attention is paid to the results obtained in such studies. Changes of physiological and biochemical properties of plant cells, with particular regard to the influence of Se on the activation of enzymatic and non-enzymatic antioxidants under this stress, are summarized. Experiments in which Se was used in some other environmental stresses (drought, UV, cold and high temperature) are also cited. On the basis of the presented literature it is suggested that a positive effect of Se depends on both its doses and on chosen plant genotypes and is mainly connected with activation of antioxidative defense in plant cells.

Under a scanning microscope, leaves from tissue cultures (after 8 weeks in vitro culturing), from 1 year old regenerants and from the 100 years old donor tree were studied. More abnormalities were observed in the tissue culture compared to regenerant and donor. During tissue culture transfer rapid, leaf dehydration occurs due to defective regulation mechanisms making stomata of tissue culture stay open. Epidermis as well as stomata cells were observed already on the leaves in in vitro conditions, but they become physiologically functioning only after transfer into conditions of natural environment.

Przy zastosowaniu mikroskopu scaningowego porównywano cechy budowy komórek liści pochodzących z 100 letniej rośliny matecznej, 8 tygodniowych kultur tkankowych oraz 1 rocznych regeneratów. W regenerantach z kultur tkankowych obserwowano więcej nienormalności w budowie komórek epidermy, komórek szparkowych i komórek przyszparkowych w porównaniu z komórkami pochodzącymi z rośliny matecznej. Podczas przenoszenia tkanek w kulturze in vitro obserwowano odwodnienie tkanek liści a mimo to komórki szparkowe pozostawały otwarte. Komórki epidermy oraz komórki szparkowe były obecne na liściach hodowli in vitro jednak stawały się one fizjologicznie funkcjonalne tylko wtedy gdy zostały przeniesione do warunków naturalnych.

BD-1158 is a new 1,4 benzodiazepine derivative. The purpose of the present experiments was to test the influence of this substance on the behaviour of rabbits under stress conditions, induced by electrical stimulation of ventromedial nucleus of the hypothalamus (VMH). The experiments were performed for 4 subsequent days in a group of 10 rabbits. On the first day the electrode was implanted into VMH. On the second day the spontaneous behaviour in stress conditions was tested. On the third day 1 ml of 1 % starch solution was administered intraperitoneally. On the fourth day BD-1158 was administered intraperitoneally at a dose 10mg/kg diluted in starch solution up to 1 ml, 35 minutes before the beginning of the experiment. Six phases of behaviour were estimated. It was concluded that in extreme conditons BD-1158 has a strong anxiolytic and sedative effect. lts influence concerns a considerable extension of the comfort phase and decrease of the tension phase. BD-1158 does not influence the animals' activity and attention (the orientation-searching phase and grooming). It decreases eating and drinking.

Various machinery parts or welded structure elements are characterised by significant cross-sectional changes along their length, leading to locally increased or accumulated stresses. The concentration of stresses is often of vital importance when determining structural stresses and strains, affects the service life of elements exposed to cyclic loads as well as influences the initiation and propagation of fatigue cracks. The article is an overview of works concerning conventional methods enabling the determination of maximum local stresses present in the stress concentration area triggered by the geometrical shape of welded joints.

The study was conducted to determine effects of a new synthesis of methylamine on the plant growth, physiological and biochemical characteristics in pepper under drought stress. There were four irrigation levels [full irrigation (100%) (I0), 80% (I1), 60% (I2) and 40% (I3)] and two methylamine (MA) treatments (0, 2.5 mM). At the end of the study, it was observed that there were significant differences between applications and levels. Effects of MA treatments on plant growth (plant height, stem diameter, fresh, dry weight etc.), plant physiological and biochemical parameters [tissue electrical conductivity (TEC), tissue relative water content (TRWC), hydrogen peroxide (H₂O₂), malondialdehyde (MDA), proline, antioxidant enzyme activity], and plant nutrient element content of pepper seedlings under different irrigation levels were significantly important. The results of the study showed that the drought stress conditions negatively affected the plant growth, increased the content of TEC, H₂O₂ and MDA, and decreased the TRWC and plant mineral content in pepper. However, MA application improved plant growth and decreased TEC, H₂O₂ and MDA content compared to control in pepper under drought conditions. MA treated plants at I3 had higher shoot fresh weight and shoot dry weight than non-treated plants by 12 and 20%, respectively. In conclusion, MA application could mitigate the deleterious effects of the drought stress on the pepper seedlings.
