The contribution presents the results of the research of resistance of hard facing metals in conditions of erosive wear. Two types of hard - surfacing electrodes with different chemical composition were used on creation of three layers hard facing metals. Chemical composition of electrodes determined difference in structure of surface deposit. We investigated the influence of angle of incidence of abrasive particles on wear magnitude of hard facing metals. The results of the experiments showed that intensity of wear is very depended on parameters of wear as well as structure morphology of hard facing metals.

Brief review of most important tests of hardmetals mechanical properties together with their practical usage in industry for a quality control and an informative quantity in research works is presented. Some tests used in industry and research laboratories are standardized while others are accepted as in-house or research methods. Current state of standardization of the selected mechanical properties according to PN-EN, PN-ISO, ISO, ASTM and EN is analysed.

The paper is related to Institute's research activity over the last few years concerning powder metallurgy (P/M) in the fields of: electric contact tips manufactured by P/M techniques (excluding tips and rivets obtained by mechanical working), modern fine-grained hard metals for instruments, metal foams, self-lubricating bearings for high load rating conditions and soft and hard magnetic materials prepared by metallic powder consolidation.
