This article aims to identify the impact of sport events on tourism development in Torun, and the perspective indication of its usage in aspects of shaping the national and local tourism. Torun has a great potential for tourism (with its wealth of architectural monuments and diverse culture), however the creation of mass running events as a new product should be included as one of the elements of the tourism development strategy in the city. If strengthened and developed, a “sport” form of tourism can improve the attractiveness of Torun, constitute a diversified product, and as a result, become – along with cultural and business tourism – another driving force of tourism growth in the city. This is also indicative of the use of synergy and mutual benefits for the multidirectional development of urban tourism.
With the growing number of sports and other types of cultural events held in Łódź, there is a demand for new sports and recreational facilities, such as football stadiums and sports and entertainment halls. The aim of this article is to show the importance of the largest sports and recreational facilities located in the tourism space of Łódź. The analysis is mainly based on an inventory of stadiums and multi-purpose arenas in Łódź. In addition, the article provides a review of the literature related to sport tourism in cities, with emphasis on definitions of sport tourism and tourism space. Another category of information used by the author includes data compiled by institutions managing the facilities and bodies responsible for the organization of sports events in the city. The sport facilities of interest are also classified according to selected criteria. Finally, the discussion is supported by statistics about tourist traffic during sports and cultural events associated with the analysed sport and recreation facilities. The analysis indicates that the largest sports and recreation facilities play a role in the tourism space of Łódź but it is not as significant played by Piotrkowska Street or the Manufaktura shopping and service center.
The paper presents the issue of sports activity development in the context of the European City of Sports project in selected Slovakian cities: Košice, Banská Bystrica and Nitra. It is an analytical overview aiming at the development of these cities for tourism through the organisation of international sporting events. Using several methods, especially comparison, the authors analyse certain activities and other sports-related issues. The events and activities not only contributed to the development of sport but also supported tourism in the region. A review of the literature on the subject demonstrates the importance and basic assumptions of the European City of Sports as a popular project. The comparative analysis has enabled the authors to present its results in each of the three Slovakian cities.
Tourists participating in the so-called sports tourism mostly benefit from general tourist infrastructure – accommodation, food services, transport, tourist information, sports and leisure facilities available to all tourists – regardless of the motivation underlying their stay. Thanks to global sports events a new form of sports-related tourism has been established, which has its maximum representation in major events such as the Olympic Games and the World or European Championships. Esports is undoubtedly one of the most rapidly developing industries in today’s world, both in terms of business and as sports. This article sets out to present forms and current trends in sports tourism. Subsequently, it focuses on esports and provides basic information about this form of leisure, indicates similarities between cybersport and traditional sport, and offers examples of electronic sports events, including the top event in the city of Katowice, which appears to be the Polish capital of esports. In addition, the article offers an insight into how the cybersports industry reacted to SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus pandemic. Furthermore, the authors analyse legal aspects of electronic sports in Poland and other countries and, finally, present and discuss the results of survey research pertaining to the impact of esports on tourism.
The purpose of the article is to systematize the concepts of fan tourism and fan tourists and an attempt has also been made to identify the profile of a fan tourist. There are certain research gaps in terms of defining the concept itself, therefore the authors have decided to investigate this. Literature analysis and criticism as well as synthesizing ideas were methods used in this work. The article presents the characteristics of fan tourism and a description of a fan tourist using psychological, social and economic criteria identified on the basis of a literature investigation. The following attributes were distinguished: the main motive of activity, emotional involvement, ‘extreme’ support, commitment to ideas, sympathy towards ideas, personal attendance at an event and the nature of a consumer or a prosumer when a fan tourist participates in an event personally. The concepts of a fan in general, fanatic and sports fan (kibic) were used in the process of identifying the characteristics of a fan tourist.
An aspect of controversial animal tourism that has received little attention is its relationship with cultural tourism. The article presents a categorization of cultural tourism, and sports attractions and events related to the abuse of animals. It shows how tourists, driven by cultural omnivorousness and the wish to stand out from the crowd, eagerly enjoy controversial forms of animal tourism on their travel. In order to avoid the pitfall of western ethnocentrism ending in accusations of barbarism, the issue is also reflected on from an intercultural point of view, which helps to understand that local communities have different attitudes to animals and their wellbeing. In addition, a historical overview shows that ‘animal friendliness’ does not have a long tradition in western thinking about the human-animal relationship and is only of recent date. Sustainable solutions for controversial animal tourism have to be found by raising tourists’ awareness by means of information and education.
Malta dysponuje atrakcyjnymi warunkami do rozwoju turystyki wypoczynkowej (malownicze plaże, ciepłe, czyste wody morskie), kulturowej (megalityczne kompleksy świątynne, historyczne miasta) oraz lingwistycznej (nauka języka angielskiego). W porównaniu do lat 80. XX wieku ruch turystyczny wzrósł o ponad połowę, co jest m.in. wynikiem dywersyfikacji produktu turystycznego przez wprowadzenie form turystyki kwalifikowanej (diving, climbing, caving, golf).

At present, tourism has become the leading sector in many geographical locations. It offers the opportunity to activate the local labour force, increase income of the local population and intensify industrial development. In case of tourist regions which specialise in recreation tourism, an important question emerges about the future development trends ensuring sustainability of the local tourist development. A well-proven method to maintain or increase the importance of tourism is to diversify the product based on new types of tourist traffic. Such activities result in changes in the tourist development structures and types, which create opportunities of acquiring new clients. Malta offers attractive conditions for developing recreation tourism (picturesque beaches, clean and warm sea), cultural tourism (megalithic temple complexes, historical cities) and linguistic tourism (language courses). When compared to 1980s, a 50% growth in the tourist traffic has been reported, also in consequence of a diversified tourist product through introduction of qualified tourism (diving, climbing, caving, golf).
