In the paper, the author discusses the relatively new domain of economic turnover, that is one connected with the functioning of companies of the spin-off type (the so-called academic entrepreneurs). At the same time, the author characterizes this form of running economic activity and points to the definition and the essence of the entrepreneur as determined in the regulations of the Polish law. Moreover, the author indicates some postulated areas of support of Spin-off entrepreneurs, concentrating – to the main extent – on the model of support of the regional, supra-regional and nationwide character. The above-mentioned areas have been discussed as regards the division into elements of material, financial and non-material support.
