The main objective is to identify the essence and the fundamental objectives of corporate governance in commercial companies with the participation of local government units. To achieve this objective were used the method of analysis and critique of the literature in the field of supervision over the activities of companies, municipal economy, research the internal documents of the Ministry of the Treasury and selected polish local government units. The paper presents characteristics of the theoretical aspects of corporate governance, essence of companies with local government units and the basic objectives of the corporate governance in municipal companies.
