The evaluation of employees is currently one of the fundamental managerial tasks of each employer. The assessment of employees is used for documentation and recapitulation of the employee’s job performance, which is associated with particular tasks. This can be a very important tool for the management of an organisation and the method of evaluation of the performance of its own employees. The Czech Republic is facing some difficulties when recruiting policemen and policewomen. This is mainly due to the lengthy process of recruitment and examination, which takes place before the actual hiring. In addition, the candidates must pass tests in the field of mental endurance, physical fitness etc. There is a similar situation to be observed at the Ministry of Defence of the Czech Republic, where they want to recruit 8,000 personnel but do not have enough potential candidates. This will become a serious issue for the personnel department of the Czech Ministry of Defence, especially if President Donald Trump decides to reduce the number of US troops. The innovative element of this scientific article is that the whole issue is brought together with the various laws and regulations of the Civil Code of the Czech Republic, which is compared with the Labour Code and also applied to members of the armed security forces. The object of this article is to highlight the need and importance of effective evaluationof candidates in connection with various methods of employee evaluation in the context of the Czech Civil Code and Labour Code. The article describes the fundamentals of the evaluation process.

As in the first part of this paper (see “LingVaria” 2016 1 (21) ), also here the author describes selected non-literary sources for the history of Polish vocabulary from the period from the 16th to the 18th century. They are not always taken into account by the editors of historical dictionaries, despite the fact that they contain a wealth of interesting vocabulary from various areas of everyday life of peasants and townsmen, from the history of law and judicature, trade, craft, military, etc. This vocabulary constitutes a constant element in the history of the lexical resources of Polish, and a testimony of the history of culture.

The author discusses non-literary sources for the history of Polish vocabulary from the period from the 16th to the 18th century. They are not always taken into account by the editors of the newest historical dictionaries, despite the fact that they contain a wealth of interesting vocabulary from various areas of everyday life of peasants and townsmen, from the history of law and judicature, trade, craft, military, etc. Many of those words have survived till our times, constituting a lasting legacy of Polish vocabulary and a testimony of the history of culture.

Although the importance of news sources is widely acknowledged in journalism and political communication, few studies have examined source use in election news reporting in Bulgaria. Based on a content analysis of the two national dailies with the highest circulation, the present study demonstrates that domestic politicians vastly outnumber other types of sources. In addition, election news articles rarely incorporate more than one news source, thus limiting the diversity of opinions in the press. Such coverage may potentially lead to a narrowing of the range of discussion about political issues and give national political elites the power to define the issues for the public.

The article deals with the potential of historical and geographic study of landscape parks, especially the usage of written and visual sources. The specific example of designed landscape around the castle Lázeň near Chudenice demonstrates the necessity of using all kinds of sources for the detailed study of historical parks and gardens. The park in Chudenice originated especially in the first half of the 19th century and is very suitable as a model example, because the extant source basis is wide and contains written, visual as well as cartographic sources.

The purpose of this article is to introduce different sources of information and materials available about Ingrian Finnish traditional dances. By comparing them it is possible to find out what and how was danced in Ingria. The second part of the article analyses the most typical dances and dance types. Information about the dances is collected and the research is conducted aiming at the reconstruction of dances so that they could be danced again by younger generations of Ingrian Finns. Before the World War II, the Ingrian tradition was collected and published as a part of Finnish culture but after the war it was ignored for a long time. In addition to Finland, dances were published in Estonia and Karelia and some fieldwork was done among the Ingrian Finns who had moved to Sweden. In Ingrian tradition, singing and dancing are close together and that is why quite a lot of information about dances can be found in song publications. The most important researchers and writers are Asko Pulkkinen, Viola Malmi, Ingrid Rüütel, Pirkko-Liisa Rausmaa and Anneli Asplund. Dance types in Ingrian tradition: 1. Old metrical song dance in which old songs are performed by dancing in a chain, circle, lines or alone without partner. There is information about even younger dance elements as in contra dances to be used together with old metrical runo songs. 2. Röntyskäs in Northern Ingria. In them two couples dance at the same time. 3. Figures accompanied by new folk songs with rhymes. Other couples are standing in a circle and the dance grows clockwise as a progression. 4. A few dances that have been popular all over Finland (weaving, couples dances) and ring games. 5. Lancier quadrille and newer couples dances as Pas d’Espagne, Vengerka, Krakoviak and waltzes. 6. Quadrille’s variants in Ingria are pretty similar to Northern Russian quadrille.

The purpose of this paper is to study the problem of regional detection, to characterize internal or boundary regionally detectable sources and regionally spy sensors, and to establish a relationship between these sensors and regionally strategic sensors. It is shown how to reconstruct a regionally detectable internal or a boundary source from a given output, with an extension to the case when the output is affected by an observation error. Numerical results are given in the case of a diffusion system.

The aim of the research realised within the project was to present the book culture in the Roman Catholic men monasteries existing in the Grand Duchy of Lithuania since the elimination of the urban monastery network and the cassation of its individual outposts. An analysis was made of the literature created and used by these communities. The project assumed a multi-aspect presentation of the phenomena and processes of functioning of the texts in monastic environments. The research included an analysis of the formation and education of monks, the canon of the books created and stored by them, which were used in priesthood, education, but also scientific and readership work and the monastic publishing initiatives in the context of the social interactions of these monasteries

The article presents an in‑depth register and short review of manuscripts related in any way to the Armenian community, chiefly written in the 18th century, which are preserved in the Ossoliński National Institute in Wrocław. The number of manuscripts, either directly concerning or recorded by Armenians, is 76. The significant majority of them regards the Lwów community, a dozen or so the community in Stanisławów, and only a few manuscripts concern other cities. The largest number of manuscripts in the Ossolineum Library is related to the Lwów Armenians, which seems natural considering the size of the Armenian community in that city and the central position of the Armenian Church in Lwów. The major part of the written material consists of liturgical and theological manuscripts, religious fraternities, registers of items and church expenses. Except for religious texts in this collection there are records of the Armenian community, codices describing the order of court cases of the Armenian community law, royal decrees concerning court cases translated into Armenian, as well as texts related to the Armenian law. The second Armenian community, as represented in the Ossolineum’s collection, were the Armenians of Stanisławów. There are 16 manuscripts either written within that community or directly relating to it. The most valuable of them would be the five volumes of the Armenian privilege law released in Stanisławów, or the vogt and town council books. The Ossoliński National Institute is most likely in possession of numerous other documents, not researched yet, which once belonged to private persons of Armenian descent.

Faustyn Ciecierski, a Vilnius-based Dominican brother, left an interesting manuscript heritage. It includes Pamiętnik (The diary) from his exile to Siberia in the 1790s, Dziennik wizytatora (The journal of a visitor) written in the years 1821–1832 and supplements to the chronicle of the Lithuanian Dominican brothers. The preserved texts constitute a rich source material for historians – especially the researchers into the history of Dominicans – but also to geographers, travelers, and ethnographers as well as linguists and the literati. The heritage is also an interesting testimony of how the text and books functioned in the Dominican monasteries in Lithuania and Belarus. It allows for establishing new facts related to the artistic output; research, collector and bibliophile interests of the monastery members, their achievements in the fields of education, functioning of the library and archival collections in the Dominican monasteries of the Lithuanian province at the end of the 18th and the first three decades of the 19th century.

Herodotus, Theophrastus, Pliny the Elder, Achilles Tatius, Philostratus, and other writers in antiquity provide similar descriptions of the fertilization of date palms in Mesopotamia. However, although all these narratives bear a general resemblance to one another, none can be proven to be the direct source of Ammianus Marcellinus’s version (Res Gestae, XXIV,3,12–13). Instead this article argues that his account was influenced by contemporary oral retellings of an Assyrian fertility myth.

The pervasiveness of hedging in Anglo-American academic discourse is determined by the dialogic nature of research articles, which allow scientists to tentatively present their findings and ask colleagues with modesty and deference for their acceptance. Hedging devices allow researchers to express the lack of complete commitment to the truth of the proposition, or unwillingness to state a claim categorically. The comparison of frequencies and functions of hedging devices in individual sections of native English speakers’ research articles to those written by Czech and Slovak authors revealed considerable differences in the article structure and the overall aims of individual sections, which is probably caused by the different socio-pragmatic context. Czech and Slovak writers underestimate the use of mainly reader-motivated hedges in all parts of the articles, do not appear to admit the constraints of the research, and seldom show awareness of the relatively minor value of their findings.

This paper surveys key features of Poland’s energy culture and energy security situation and how they influence country’s attitudes towards environmental dimension of energy policy. It looks in this context at the obstacles and prospects for development of renewable energy in Poland. It deals, on the one hand, with the mechanisms and reasons behind disregarding in a public discourse potential role of RES in securing future energy needs of Polish society, on the other hand, with a potential contribution of green energy to Poland’s energy security.

In today's conditions of active growth of the non-government parties' participation in international relations and fast development of the municipal partnership, the issues of identification, analysis and generalization of the source base of the formation of a complex phenomenon of twin cities as participants of the international cooperation are becoming of paramount importance. The article analyzes the source base of the process of formation, development and modern state of twin and partner relations of Odessa, as well as international cooperation of Odessa Region in the second half of the XXth - beginning of the XXIth centuries. The basis of the source for the study consists of published and unpublished archival materials which are stored in the archives of the Union of Soviet Friendship and Cultural Relations with foreign countries, the Association of Soviet and Foreign Cities, the regional and city committees of the Communist Party of Ukraine, the archives of regional and state administrations, city councils and city executive committees, archives of local authorities of twin and partner cities. The second group of sources is represented by materials from periodicals containing reports on exchanges of delegations, joint events, speeches by members of delegations of twin cities. A separate group of sources consists of journalistic publications, materials from the Internet portals, information resources, which quickly covers the news and expert opinions on cultural, educational and other international events, the establishment of twin/partner relations and the development of the international volunteer movement. In general, the source base is wide and diverse and quite sufficient for a comprehensive analysis and comprehensive coverage of the international cooperation of Odessa Region during the specified period. Large-scale complex of archival documents that are stored in the State Archives of the Odessa Region, the Department of Archival Affairs of the Odessa City Council and departmental archives of the region are required further scientific

Background: High complexity and variability of the environment, the interconnected market, globalization, technological development, have a decisive influence on the essence of logistics management. In the author’s opinion, an important qualitative research tool useful in 1) mitigating such areas of logistic uncertainty as: complexity, lack of communication, technology, and in particular lack of logistics vision and 2) minimizing information asymmetries between logistics triad actors is „weak signals” (by their identification and analysis). Weak signals are inaccurate early signs of upcoming events that allow to "recognize of unknowable" in confrontation with strong signals that are sufficiently visible and specific. Methods: In the article were used the results of the method of analysis and logical construction as well as the method of analysis and criticism of the literature as the main research methods. On this basis was performed deductive reasoning. Results: Scientific results is an attempt to answer the following research questions: 1) what is the relationship between weak signals and sources of uncertainty in the area of logistics?; 2) what are the sources of weak signals in the area of uncertain logistics development in relation to contextual search?; 3) which phenomena, minimizing information asymmetries between actors of the logistics triad can be treated as weak signals heralding strong signals, in extreme cases taking the form of wild cards? Conclusions: The main problem in this article is focused on identification sources of weak signals as sources of uncertainty in relation to the development of selected areas of logistics. In the author's opinion, the selected research problem has not been taken up in the literature yet. Analyzes of weak signals are very important part of future management (e.g. foresight) and innovation research. In the author's opinion, logistics also belongs to the field where research of „seeds of changes” seems to be indispensable to avoid the effect of "surprise".

Based on twenty interviews with the representatives of a specific memory group, Bohemia’s and Moravia’s nobility, their memories of the period of World War II and the Nazi era are described. The author shows that a remembrance is not only a mere expression of personal experiences, as often believed in oral history, but that it constitutes a complicated fabric in which individual memory, often unconsciously, is subject to the current predominant cultural scripts. Hence, the memories of nobles exhibit some identical narrative patterns, typical of the nobility of Bohemia and Moravia as a social group, mostly irrespective of their nationality.
