The article deals with the variety of meanings of the feminine forms tvořilka, tvůrkyně, tvořitelka and tvořička, which relate to the verb tvořit ‘to create’. Focusing on the lexeme tvořilka, its adherent expressiveness and the results of a corpus-based analysis, the author tracks the movement of this lexeme between language center and periphery.

The aim of this study is to explore a specific part of the Czech lexis – the lexical items used by individuals who have experience with drug use and abuse. The article attempts to offer an answer to the question of whether drug users, distributors and producers attempt to conceal the meaning of their communication due to the illegality of their activities. In order to gain a more specific insight into this general notion, the first part of the study explores the motivation of word-formation in two specific semantic fields – selected types of narcotic and psychoactive substances and production of one type of narcotic. The second part of the study then moves on to assess the answers to questions regarding the cryptic function of the language of drug users.

The object of observation is criminal jargon from the 19th century. The description concerns lexis belonging to the thematic field religion. The text shows little known (or even unknown) historical vocabulary of the environment. The author focuses on presenting the etymology of the collected words. Some remarks on the origin of words have the character of hypotheses and are a pretext for further discussion. The author excerpts linguistic material from Słownik mowy złodziejskiej by Antoni Kurka (1896) and Szwargot więzienny by Karol Estreicher (1903, this publication gathers vocabulary from Estreicher’s works published several decades earlier). The author evaluates the stability of the vocabulary and the development of the lexis – he compares the 19th-century material with notations appearing in the later work Żargon mowy przestępczej by Wiktor Ludwikowski and Henryk Walczak (published in 1922).

Przedmiotem obserwacji poczynionych w artykule jest XIX-wieczny żargon kryminalny. Szczegółowemu opisowi poddano leksykę należącą do pola tematycznego religia. W tekście przedstawiono mało znane (lub wręcz zupełnie nieznane) historyczne słownictwo socjolektalne. Skupiono się na przedstawieniu etymologii zebranego materiału leksykalnego, zaznaczając, że niektóre uwagi dotyczące pochodzenia słów mają charakter autorskich hipotez i stanowią pretekst do dalszej dyskusji. Słownictwo wyekscerpowano ze Słownika mowy złodziejskiej Antoniego Kurki (1896) i Szwargotu więziennego Karola Estreichera (1903; publikacja ta gromadzi słownictwo z prac Estreichera opublikowanych kilkadziesiąt lat wcześniej). W toku analiz oceniono stabilność zgromadzonej leksyki w polskim socjolekcie środowisk przestępczych, zaprezentowano rozwój leksyki należącej do omawianego pola – w tym celu zestawiono materiał XIX-wieczny z zapisami występującymi w późniejszej pracy Żargon mowy złodziejskiej autorstwa Wiktora Ludwikowskiego i Henryka Walczaka (wyd. 1922)..
