The reforms of the Polish Armed Forces implemented so far involved mainly decreasing the number of soldiers. This quantity has been vaguely estimated, and the only factor taken into consideration was economic condition. No major political (or military) body has stated the final number of armed forces so that it would enable fulfilling their tasks. Therefore this article attempts to define factors to be taken into account while determining the number of the Polish Armed Forces (Land Forces in particular) and subsequently presents the methodology of assessing the number of these forces. Finally the author confronts the calculated numbers with Poland's present economic potential.
