The article describes cylinder mould machines for web forming. Modified formers using short wire loops to enhance fibre distribution and water drainage are presented. Formers such as BistrolFormer, TurboFormer, Newport Former from Black Clawson Company, TT ShortFormer and TT PressureFormer from Toscotec and FloatLip formerTM from Voith is described. The cylinder mould machine is now primarily used for making boards (heavier weight papers) or, because of its superior watermark ability, for production of high security papers. The general construction of headbox and cylinders in these machines were also presented.
