The purpose of the study is to analyze the dynamics of regional disparities on NUTS 2 level in Poland for the period 1990–2017 within the framework of sigma convergence. We focus in particular on comparing the patterns of regional convergence before and after EU accession, introducing the methodology of parallel sigma convergence. The results show that the Mazowieckie voivodeship grew much above the average in both the pre-and post-accession periods, while eastern regions lagged behind. EU accession did not have a significant impact on the pattern of internal sigma convergence in Poland. Disparities between regions were increasing at the same pace before and after 2004, despite significant resources having been allocated to cohesion-focused undertakings after EU accession, especially in lagging eastern regions.

W artykule zaprezentowano stanowisko badawcze oraz wyniki pilotażowych badań laboratoryjnych dotyczących efektywności wzmocnienia stalowych belek z kształtowników cienkościennych typu sigma za pomocą taśm CFRP. Badania objęły sześć belek z kształtownika profilowanego na zimno typu sigma o wysokości 140 mm i grubości ścianki 2,5 mm, długości 3 m równomiernie obciążonych. Cztery belki wzmocniono taśmami z włókien węglowych, a pozostałe dwie były badane bez wzmocnienia w celu uzyskania wyników referencyjnych i porównania ich z rezultatami uzyskanymi na belkach wzmocnionych. Dokonano wstępnej oceny zasadności stosowania materiałów kompozytowych do wzmocnienia konstrukcji cienkościennych.

The paper presents the experimental stand and the preliminary results of laboratory test concerning the analysis of the effectiveness of the strengthening of steel beams made of thin-walled sigma profiles by using the CFRP strips. The study includes six beams made of the cold-rolled sigma profiles with height of 140 mm, wall thickness of 2,5 mm and a length of 3 meters subjected to the uniform distributed loaded. Four beams have been strengthened with carbon fiber, while the other two were tested without strengthening for comparison of results. On the basis of the obtained results the evaluation of the accuracy of applied composite materials for strengthening of thin-walled structures was performed.
