Innovative areas mostly mean technoparks and technopolies, science parks, industrial zones and areas where advanced technologies are employed. Fast economic development, increased competitiveness and higher life standard of the inhabitants can be observed there. Chosen factors of social, natural and cultural environment as well as economic and legal actions determined successful location of such areas in many regions of the world. The aim of the article is to compare these factors and actions with situation in Poland and possibilities of gaining EU funds for realisation of some of the plants in these ventures.
