The aim of this paper is to point to the ways of narrating history in the reportages written after 1945 and concerned with the issues of land disinheritance, culture and language of people living in the Warmia and Masuria region, as well as, in the case of the Masurians, religion after the territorial changes which took place after the Second World War. A certain regularity can be noticed in these reportages. It consists in creating narration about the past and approaching present-day literature, with the authors acting as moralizers rather than merely as informers who present their knowledge of facts. This phenomenon could be observed just after the war, later in the times of the Polish People’s Republic, and can be observed nowadays when reporters want to revive a forgotten topic.

The book Is God Going to Forgive Nun Bernadetta by Justyna Kopińska, showing to the public the abnormalities and pathologies of functioning at the Special Education Centre of the Boromeuszki Nuns in Zabrze, will be the subject of our interest. We will be concerned with the techniques which allow us to put this text in the field of investigative journalism (such as facts management, the realization of compositional and stylistic assumptions, creating portraits of characters, and respecting ethical rules of journalism).

Artykuł dotyczy rozważań na temat analizy wybranych reportaży Jacka Hołuba ze zbiorów Żeby umarło przede mną. Opowieści matek niepełnosprawnych dzieci oraz Niegrzeczne. Historie dzieci z ADHD, autyzmem i zespołem Aspergera. Autorka koncentruje się na charakterystyce narracyjnego dyskursu macierzyńskiego realizowanego przez kobiety wychowujące niepełnosprawne dzieci. Jacek Hołub, oddając głos matkom, daje możliwość upublicznienia ich perspektywy przeżywania macierzyństwa. W tekście podkreśla się szczególną rolę reportażysty, który konstruuje wiarygodny opis kulturowy poprzez „matrifokalność”, wyrażoną za pomocą upodmiotowienia matki w procesie narracji. Wnioski dowodzą, że prowadzona opowieść stwarza szansę odzyskiwania własnej tożsamości przez poszczególne bohaterki reportaży, a także rozwija empatię czytelnika oraz walczy ze stereotypami społecznymi.

The article concerns considerations on the analysis of selected reportages by Jacek Hołub from the collection of Żeby umarło przede mną. Opowieści matek niepełnosprawnych dzieci and Niegrzeczne. Historie dzieci z ADHD, autyzmem i zespołem Aspergera. The author focuses on the characteristics of the narrative maternity discourse carried out by women raising disabled children. Jacek Hołub, by giving mothers a voice, gives them the opportunity to publicize their perspective of experiencing motherhood. The text emphasizes the special role of the reporter who constructs a credible cultural description through “matrifocality” expressed through the empowerment of the mother in the narrative process. Conclusions prove that the story gives the opportunity for individual heroines of reportages to regain their own identity, and also develops the reader’s empathy and fights against social stereotypes.
