Na początku 2010 r. kolejne polskie miasto uzyskało środki unijne na poprawę gospodarki wodno-ściekowej. Tym miastem, niewielkim, ale pięknie zlokalizowanym, był Nowy Targ. W stolicy Podhala trwają prace związane z bezwykopową renowacją około 10 km kanalizacji metodą "close-fit". W przypadku odcinków w złym stanie technicznym stosuje się kraking statyczny.

Sewage drains are one of the most important parts of sewage network. They are directly exposed to the eroding process caused by both surrounding and inner conditions. During drain examination many problems are encountered. The unsatisfactory state of underground city infrastructure, especially sewage drains, poses a need for their renovation. For effective and lasting rehabilitation, appropriate materials and specifically designed technologies are necessary. Modern and effective methods for drain renovation are presented in the article.

The article is a description of the Programme for improving the quality and reliability of the water and sewage infrastructure of the City of Kraków - Stage I. Co-financing for the Project was granted by the Cohesion Found by the decision of the European Commission. It approved the extension of the scope of the Project by three additional tasks, integrally related with implemented Contract "Modernisation and Extension of Kraków Płaszów II Sewage Treatment Plant": Reclamation of Sludge Lagoons, Thermal Sludge Utilisation Facility, Lower Vistula Terrace Collector. The extend of the project is mentioned in the paper as well as the environmental conditions and its aspects such as pollution, groundwater protection, waste limitation and noise emission. The application of trenchless technology chosen for the project was considered.

Shortlining is one of the cheapest trenchless techniques of sewage pipelines rehabilitation, traditionally chosen when carried out hydraulic analysis proves that the actual amount of sewage is fewer to what the conduits had originally been planned for. When the flow of sewage is low and the canals are not quite full, its energy drops and the conduits lack the ability of self-cleaning. At the same time, the probability of sedimentation rises. Shortlining helps to reduce the renovation and exploitation costs during the sewage network construction and in the future.

Stan techniczny oraz całkowita długość przyłączy kanalizacyjnych w Polsce są na razie nierozpoznane. Problem ich rehabilitacji technicznej wkrótce stanie się pierwszoplanowy, chociaż na razie jest pomijany, mimo że jest to prawdopodobnie najsłabszy element całego systemu kanalizacyjnego, w skład którego oprócz przyłączy wchodzą przewody kanalizacyjne oraz studzienki.

The technical condition and total length of sewer connections in Poland have not been studied yet. The problem of their technical rehabilitation will soon become a priority, yet it is ignored at the moment, although it is probably the weakest point of the entire sewerage system which, in addition to the connections, includes sewer lines and manholes. The National Program for Municipal Wastewater Treatment (KPOŚK) is currently underway. Implementation of the program is related to the obligations included in the EU Treaty of Accession. In line with those commitments, by the end of 2015, the water and sewage management in our country should be completely ordered. The EU will not forget about our commitments and, if the transitional periods cannot be extended, Poland will have to pay huge fines which will result in a drastic increase of water cost.
