The article is part of general research on religious language. This article focuses mainly on describing selected features of religious style in pastoral letters in the nineteenth century. The linguistic material was a collection of nineteen thematically diverse pastoral letters written by bishops of the Diocese of Kujawy and Kalisz in the years 1819-1881. Analyzing the language of those letters, special attention is devoted to the religious lexis and phraseology, including terminology, as well as the presence of pragmatically oriented rhetorical devices, like addressative forms, speaker-listener relations, normative vocabulary and superlative forms.

This article is devoted to consideration of features of the lexicographic description of religious lexicon in The unabridged Church Slavonic dictionary (1899-1900) archpriests of Grigory Dyachenko who became one of the last fundamental lexicographic compositions of the Synod period in Russia. This dictionary has not been an object of scientific research thus far. The main circle of lexicographic sources which attracted G. Additionally, the maintenance of a religious slovnik, volume of the submitted linguistic information and the methods of historical, etymological and semantic analyses used by the originator at the lexicographic description of religious lexicon are analyzed.

The article is concerned with the unusual prayer book entitled ‘’A text message to God, a prayer book for people who have little time”. The author treats it as a genre in a collection form, because it has a title, an introduction and a specific composition. This prayer book consists of blocks of statements which form micro-collections, composed on the principle of analogy. It differs from traditional prayer books that are collections of various genres. The new form does not mean a departure from traditional religious style principles. The author of the prayer book cites the Bible, uses archaisms (syntactic and lexical ones), set metaphors and specialized lexis. The prayer book implements the principle of combining tradition and modernity in contemporary Polish religious discourse in the original way
