Content available remote A complex measure for linear grammars
100%
EN
The signed real measure of regular languages, introduced and validated in recent literature, has been the driving force for quantitative analysis and synthesis of discrete-event supervisory (DES) control systems dealing with finite state automata (equivalently, regular languages). However, this approach relies on memoryless state-based tools for supervisory control synthesis and may become inadequate if the transitions in the plant dynamics cannot be captured by finitely many states. From this perspective, the measure of regular languages needs to be extended to that of non-regular languages, such as Petri nets or other higher level languages in the Chomsky hierarchy. Measures for non-regular languages has not apparently been reported in open literature and is an open area of research. As a step toward achieving this goal, this paper introduces a complex measure of linear context free grammars (LCFG) that belong to the class of non-regular languages. The proposed complex measure becomes equivalent to the signed real measure, reported in recent literature, if the LCFG is degenerated to a regular grammar.

Anisodus tanguticus (Maxim.) Pascher is an important Tibetan folk medicine and the source of tropane alkaloids (TAs) grown in Qinghai-Tibet Plateau. There are marked differences in quality of A. tanguticus from geographic areas. The aim of present research was to establish a method for the quantitative analysis of TAs coupled with chemometrics analysis to trace geographical origins. Qualitative analysis of TAs in A. tanguticus was carried out using ultra-performance liquid chromatography coupled with quadrupole time-of-flight mass spectrometry and quantitative analysis of TAs in different plant organs from different geographical origin was achieved. Contents of TAs were subjected to the principal component analysis, and orthogonal partial least-squares discriminant analysis. The contents of the three marker compounds (anisodamine, anisodine and atropine) in the roots and acrial parts of A. tanguticus were positive correlated and varied significantly from different geographical origins. Principal component analysis, and orthogonal partial least-squares discriminant analysis results showed excellent discrimination between different geographical origin of A. tanguticus. This study could provide comprehensive evaluation and further utilization of A. tanguticus resources.

Content available remote Generalized practical stability analysis of discontinuous dynamical systems

In practice, one is not only interested in the qualitative characterizations provided by the Lyapunov stability, but also in quantitative information concerning the system behavior, including estimates of trajectory bounds, possibly over finite time intervals. This type of information has been ascertained in the past in a systematic manner using the concept of practical stability. In the present paper, we give a new definition of generalized practical stability (abbreviated as GP-stability) and establish some sufficient conditions concerning GP-stability for a wide class of discontinuous dynamical systems. As in the classical Lyapunov theory, our results constitute a Direct Method, making use of auxiliary scalar-valued Lyapunov-like functions. These functions, however, have properties that differ significantly from the usual Lyapunov functions. We demonstrate the applicability of our results by means of several specific examples.

10-O-(N,N-dimethylaminoethyl)-ginkgolide B (XQ-1) is an intermediate for synthesizing 10-O-(N,N-dimethylaminoethyl)-ginkgolide B methanesulfonate (XQ-1H), which is a novel ginkgolide B derivative and is being developed as a platelet-activating factor antagonist. A specific and rapid liquid chromatographic method was developed for the quantitative analysis of XQ-1 and its three related impurities, which were 10-O-(N,N-dimethylaminoethyl)-11,12-seco-ginkgolide B (imp-1), 10-O-(N,N-dimethylaminoethyl)-11,12-seco-3,14-dehydroginkgolide B (imp-2) and 10-O-(N,N-dimethylaminoethyl)-3,14-dehydroginkgolide B (imp-3) simultaneously in XQ-1 samples. Chromatographic separation was achieved on a CN band stationary phase, with the mobile phase consisting of methanol and 20 mM dipotassium hydrogen phosphate (pH 7.5) (50:50, υ/υ) in isocratic elution. The flow rate was 1.0 mL min-1 and detector was set at 220 nm. The method was optimized by the analysis of the samples generated during the forced degradation studies. The XQ-1, imp-1, imp-2, and imp-3 were completely separated within 15 min. The resolutions (Rs) amongst four target compounds were >2. The developed method was validated with respect to specificity, linearity, accuracy, precision, and robustness. The results indicated that the simultaneous LC determination method was readily utilized as a quality control method for XQ-1 sample.

A reliable and rapid high-performance liquid chromatography coupled with diode array detector method (HPLC–DAD) was established and validated to determine eight gingerol simultaneously in the rhizomes of Zingiber offcinale Rosc. The separation of eight compounds (4-hydroxy-3-methoxy-benzenebutanol,3,5-dihydroxy-1-(4-hydroxy-3-methoxyphenyl) decane, 3,5-dihydroxy-1-(3,4-dimethoxyphenyl) decane, 6-gingerol, 8-gingerol, 6-shogaol, 5-hydroxy-1-(4-hydroxy-3-methoxyphenyl)-1,4-decadien-3-one, and 10-gingerol) were performed on an Agilent TC(2) C18 (250 mm × 4.6 mm, 5 μm) at 30 °C using acetonitrile (A) and 1% formic acid aqueous solution (B) as the mobile phase with gradient elution (0–10 min, 20%–35% A; 10–28 min, 35%–55% A; 28–35 min, 55%–60% A; 35–55 min, 60%–70% A; 55.01–60 min, 100%–100% A). The detection wavelength was set at 280 nm, and the flow rate was 0.8 mL/min. Validation of the analytical method was performed by linearity, precision, and accuracy test. All compounds were quantified with good linear calibration curves (coefficient of determination R2, >0.9999). The method showed good precision with overall coefficients of variation between 0.56% and 0.84%. The range of recovery was from 95.50% to 104.14% for the analytes. This method was successfully applied to quantify eight gingerols in Z. offcinale Rosc from different regions in China, so it can provide quality assessment for this medicine.

A new method for the analysis of four target flavonoids in two kinds of citrus samples by ultra-high performance supercritical fluid chromatography (UHPSFC) method was developed. Main variables affecting the UHPSFC separation were optimized, and under the optimized conditions the four target compounds (tangeretin, nobiletin, hesperetin and naringenin) can be separated within 10 min. The UHPSFC method allowed the determination of the four target compounds in the diluted stock solutions with limit of detection (LOD) ranging from 1.08 to 2.28 μg mL⁻¹, and limit of quantification (LOQ) ranging from 1.45 to 4.52 μg mL⁻¹, respectively. The coefficients of determination (R2) of the calibration curves were higher than 0.9950. The recoveries of the four target compounds at three different concentrations were in the range of 82.4–117.6%. The validation results demonstrated that the proposed method is simple, accurate, time-saving and environment friendly, and it is applicable to a variety of complex samples such as medicine-food dual purpose herbs and functional foods.

SimiaoYong'an decoction, a traditional Chinese medicine formula consisting of four herbs, has been widely used for the treatment of gangrene disease. However, its clinical application is restricted due to the lack of an effective quality control method that covers the main active compounds in the formula. In this study, a high-performance liquid chromatography with diode-array detection (HPLC–DAD) method was established for the simultaneous determination of 13 active compounds including harpagide, neochlorogenic acid, chlorogenic acid, cryptochlorogenic acid, ferulic acid, isochlorogenic acid B, isochlorogenic acid A, isochlorogenic acid C, angoroside C, harpagoside, cinnamic acid, glycyrrhizic acid, and ligustilide. Separation of these compounds was achieved using a Kromasil 100-5-C18 column with a gradient elution program consisting of acetonitrile and 0.4% phosphoric acid solution. The specificity, linearity, precision, repeatability, and accuracy tests were implemented to validate the method. The validated method was successfully applied for determination of 13 components from several finished batches of SimiaoYong'an decoction. The results demonstrated that the established method was accurate, reliable, and could be used as a suitable quality control method for the quantification of SimiaoYong'an decoction.

This paper describes an approach that allows to reduce error propagation when comparing historical topographic maps. By linking the fuzzy set theory with simple map algebra and Kappa statistics, the uncertainty resulting from dissimilar quality of the maps can at least be partly eliminated and a distinction between ‘true’ and ‘false’ land cover changes can be made.

Neuroblastoma, the most common extracranial solid tumour of childhood, is a malignancy of unknown origin and non-specific symptoms. One of the markers of the disease is GD2 ganglioside (disialoganglioside), which is abundantly expressed on the surface of neuroblastoma cells. Gangliosides are known to be shed by tumour cells and this phenomenon can be significant in cancer progression as they inhibit a number of immune responses both in vitro and in vivo. In search for novel markers useful in monitoring and prognosis of neuroblastoma, we developed and validated a new quantitative method of GD2 ganglioside analysis in human blood plasma. We evaluated the level of gangliosides in blood serum of 34 neuroblastoma patients using high-performance liquid chromatography. The technique was used to detect fluorescently labelled oligosaccharides derived from serum glycosphingolipids by enzymatic digestion with ceramide glycanase. The developed method allowed determination of GD2 concentrations at the picomole level and required only 40 µl of plasma, which should be particularly useful when the quantity of clinical material is limiting. Moreover, this method can be applied to study concentration of other gangliosides, as shown for GD3 ganglioside. Analysis of plasma samples from the 34 neuroblastoma patients did not reveal any correlations between the concentration of GD2 ganglioside and clinical parameters, including the results of therapy; it showed, however, that the concentration of GD2 ganglioside in the plasma of neuroblastoma patients decreased substantially in the course of treatment.

The objective of the research was a survey identification of the presence of the history of Communist Poland, PRL, in museum narrative in 1989–2017. Importantly, this is a repeated, supplemented, and more thorough research versus the one presented in the paper ‘PRL in Museum Narrative over the Last 25 Years’ published in 2014 in the Światowid. Rocznik Muzeum PRL-u (w organizacji) periodical. The research discussed in the present paper forms part of a doctoral dissertation, constituting the research’s second stage. As a result of the conducted research based on survey answers provided by museums and on individual research a database containing 642 exhibitions was created. When processing the data, quantitative analysis was adopted. After data cleaning the following statistical trends were analysed: exhibition duration over the whole research period, percentage of leading themes, percentage of themes in respective cities. The conducted analysis has permitted to observe trends in museum narrative concerning PRL. Also the most popular exhibition duration over the research period has been identified (up to two years and permanent exhibitions). The most popular categories have been named: art history, political history, history of everyday life. Three groups of urban centres where museum narrative is present to a varied degree have been named. The fourth group contains cities in whose museums the topic of PRL has not been tackled over the last 28 years, or such projects cannot be reliably confirmed.

Patrinia scabra Bunge has long been used in clinic as a traditional Chinese medicine for treating leukemia and cancer and regulating host immune response. Despite their wide use in China, no report on system analysis on their chemical constituents is available so far. The current study was designed to profile the fingerprint of ethyl acetate extract of it, and in addition, to characterize the major fingerprint peaks and determine their quantity. Therefore, a detailed gradient high-performance liquid chromatography was described to separate more than 30 compounds with satisfactory resolution in P. scabra Bunge. Based on the chromatograms of 10 batches samples, a typical high-performance liquid chromatographic (HPLC) fingerprint was established with 23 chromatographic peaks being assigned as common fingerprint peaks. Furthermore, a quadrupole time of flight mass spectrometry (Q-TOF/MS) was coupled for the characterization of major compound. As (+)-nortrachelogenin was the most predominant compound in P. scabra Bunge, the quantification on it was also carried out with the method being validated. As a result, (+)-nortrachelogenin was found to be from 1.33 to 2.21 mg g−1 in this plant material. This rapid and effective analytical method could be employed for quality assessment of P. scabra Bunge, as well as pharmaceutical products containing this herbal material.

The paper proposes several indicators for the degree of convergence in the internationalization of European higher education, based on previous research on the topic and on the availability of data in the large repositories, such as Eurostat. Starting from longitudinal data series built using the values of the selected indicators in 2015; we have grouped European higher education systems in clusters, based on their similarity, that is, potential for medium term convergence. These findings may serve as a guiding methodology for further, more detailed investigations on convergence and divergence of higher education systems in Europe. The main limitations arise from the availability of data, more specifically from the lack of in-depth data collection at the European level.

Based on real-text corpora with syntactic annotation, this study quantitatively addressed the following two questions: whether quantitative methods and indexes can point to the diachronic syntactic drifts characterizing the evolution from Latin to Romance languages and whether these methods and indexes can provide evidence to evince the shared syntactic features among Romance languages and define them as a distinctive language subgroup. Our study shows that the distributions of dependency directions are suggestive of positive answers to the above two questions. In addition, the dependency syntactic networks extracted from the dependency treebanks reflect the degree of inflectional variation of a language, and the clustering analysis shows that these parameters, in spite of some imperfections, can also help differentiate Romance languages from Latin diachronically and from other languages synchronically.
