The Human Resources Management industry is feminised and gives women the opportunity to achieve high managerial and expert positions. Female specialists in this field, who are strongly involved in their professional duties, are subject to twofold pressure. On the one hand, they are expected to adjust their working style and time management to the needs of the world of business, governed by the rules of liberalism. On the other hand, they are confronted with traditional expectations concerning family roles. The aim of this article is to present the strategies of combining professional and domestic roles and the ways of coping with the organisation of time and space in a complex life situation by women for whom professional work is an important element of identity and who have a sense of high value of their work. Selected aspects of women’s work are presented on the example of professional biographies obtained from narrative interviews with female informants working in the HR industry. The results of the study indicate three strategies of combining professional and family roles, which can be set on a scale from the most liberal to a mix of traditional and liberal models.

Postać Paula Honigsheima (1885-1963) – pioniera andragogiki w Kolonii (Niemcy) – jest w niniejszym artykule interesująca nie tyle z powodu jego teoretycznych osiągnięć, ile z uwagi na modelowy dla niemieckiego środowiska andragogicznego przebieg jego działalności zawodowej uwarunkowanej kulturo-wo, społecznie i politycznie. Na przykładzie jego biografii można przyjrzeć się bli-żej początkom procesów akademizacji i profesjonalizacji edukacji dorosłych, a szczególnie jej związków z socjologią oraz etnografią. Historia życia P. Honigsheima to droga migranta, która z Niemiec zawiodła go do Francji, a później przez Środkową i Południową Amerykę do USA, aby stamtąd wrócić mentalnie do powojennych Niemiec.

Paul Honigsheim (1885-1963) – pioneer of andragogy in Cologne (Germany) – in this article he is considered not due to his accomplishments in the field of theory, but his model career development within the German andragogical society predicated by culture, society and politics. His biography shows the begin-ning of a scientific and professional approach towards adult education, especially its relationship with sociology and ethnography. Mr. Honigsheim's life is that of a migrant – from Germany to France, then Central and South America, and onto the USA, from where he could come back mentally to Germany after the war.
