Comprehensive work on the history of nineteenth-century biographical texts has not been written yet and if it had, it would have to include the laudatory biographies practiced by Warsaw’s Towarzystwo Przyjaciół Nauk (Society of Friends of Arts and Sciences). An extensive collection of them can be found in their yearbooks. This article’s object of interest is Pochwała Józefa Szymanowskiego [Praise of Józef Szymanowski] by Stanisław Kostka Potocki, which was oftentimes cited as an example of exorbitant rhetoric in the past. Zaangażowanie pracowników w sprawy organizacji w czasie kryzysu, a zwłaszcza jego wychodzenia z niego, daje szanse na sprawniejsze przezwyciężenie trudnej sytuacji, w jakiej mogła znaleźć się organizacja. Nie zawsze kryzys gospodarczy prowadzi do upadku organizację czy wiąże się ze zwolnieniem pracowników. Przemyślane i rozsądne postępowanie kierowników względem pracowników może okazać się, że przyniesie lepsze skutki niż zakładano. Docenianie pracy pracowników przez przełożonych, okazywanie im szacunku, zwiększanie zakresu odpowiedzialności za wykonywane zadania oraz możliwość podejmowania prostych decyzji przez pracowników pozwala czuć się im integralną częścią organizacji. Takie działania przyczyniają się do tego, że pracownicy mają wpływ na to, co dzieje się w ich firmie. W dobie wychodzenia z kryzysu gospodarczego dla pracowników ważna jest świadomość stałego zatrudnienia. Pracownicy zwracają również uwagę na pochwały ze strony kierowników, awans czy elastyczny czas pracy (w organizacjach, w których jest to możliwe). Ten ostatni czynnik pozwala pracownikowi, choć w części, ułożyć sobie obowiązki pracownicze i rodzinne.

Employees’ involvement in an organization’s affairs during crisis, especially at the time of crisis recovery provides opportunities for overcoming, in a more effective manner, a difficult situation which the organization may face. The economic crisis does not always result in the organization’s collapse or lead to dismissals. Dealing with the staff in a well thought-out and reasonable manner by managers may produce better results than expected. Superiors appreciating work performed by their subordinates, showing them respect, expanding responsibilities for assigned tasks and the possibility of allowing employees to take simple decisions makes them feel that they are an integral part of the organization and actually have impact on what is going. During the time of crisis recovery it is important for the staff to know that they are guaranteed permanent employment. They also pay attention to praise from their management, promotions or flexible hours (in those organizations where it is possible). The latter factor allows a manager to, at least partially, achieve their life and work balance.

Psalm 95, a liturgical hymn to Yhwh-King, is a coherent literary composition. Its seemingly heterogeneous features converge in the solemn worship of the divine kingship. The exaltation of God by the cultic assembly in the Jerusalem temple consists of praise (vv.1-5) and of adoration (vv.6-11). The rationale of tôdâ resides in the greatness and sovereignty of the Creator who rules over the entire world. The motive for proskynesis is threefold: (1) the covenant between the Fashioner of Israel and his people, (2) an exhortation to be docile to Yhwh’s voice and (3) an admonition to avoid stubbornness, a mistake made by the Meriba generation.

Positive and negative information related to pupils’ functioning given to parents by the teacher plays an essential role in the modification of the child behaviour. The study presents the results of the investigation on information given by teachers: their characteristics, content, and their influence on a child's education. Opinions were analyzed from two perspectives: teachers and parents. Elementary school teachers took part in the study (N = 29) as well as parents of children from this level of the education (N = 57). A new questionnaire, devised by the authors, was applied. Results show that both groups participating in the study find information significant for the education. Respondents said that information is formulated “often” and is “quite extensive” and the various aspects of child’s functioning is included. Moreover, information from teachers is not one-dimensional, but often combines praise and criticism.

Informacje (pozytywne i negatywne) dotyczące funkcjonowania ucznia przekazywane rodzicom przez nauczyciela pełnią istotną rolę w modyfikacji zachowania dziecka. Praca przedstawia wyniki badania, którego celem było określenie czym charakteryzują się informacje przekazywane rodzicom przez nauczycieli, czego dotyczą, jak są przekazywane oraz jak oceniany jest ich wpływ na wychowanie. Opinie analizowano z dwóch perspektyw: nauczycieli i rodziców. W badaniu wzięli udział nauczyciele edukacji wczesnoszkolnej (N = 29) i rodzice dzieci z tego poziomu kształcenia (N = 57). Zastosowano kwestionariusz ankiety własnego autorstwa. Wyniki wskazują, że obie grupy respondentów uważają informacje od nauczycieli za znaczące dla wychowania, twierdzą że formułowane są one często i są dość wyczerpujące, obejmują różne aspekty funkcjonowania dziecka. Ponadto, informacje od nauczycieli nie mają jednostronnego charakteru, lecz najczęściej łączą ze sobą pochwały i uwagi krytyczne.

The manuscript, retrieved from the archives of the Library of the Lithuanian Academy of Sciences, presents an occasional letter by a famous Lithuanian archivist and collector, Wacław Gizbert Studnicki, offered to the founder and benefactor of the Vilnius library, Tadeusz Wróblewski, for his name day. The main body of the letter is constituted by an occasional poem, re-written by Studnicki, dated 1770 and signed by Ingacy Szadurski, which is a praise of library collections.

3 e study is dedicated to the image creation of the characters in “Źwierzyniec” (“Bestiary”) by Mikołaj Rej (1505-1569), based on the metaphors. This article focuses on determining the role of metaphors in portraying representatives of the nobility environment in “Rozdział wtóry” (3 e second chapter) of “Źwierzyniec”. The analysis is made for the selected epigrams where Rej used metaphors based on pronunciation of the surnames of the characters, comparison of their appearances with traits of character, heraldic charges, family lines or associations with heroes immortalised in culture. As determined, metaphors and similes serve mainly to emphasise and enhance positive traits of the characters. Their form adds attractiveness to the text and makes it easier for the reader to draw morals more effectively, as well.

The aim of the paper is to identify the linguistic exponents of Russian compliments. The examples which will be analyzed come from contemporary Russian. We will consider direct and indirect compliments, paying attention to such phenomena as presupposition and implicature as well as to the pragmatic functions of utterances. An analysis of communication strategies will allow us to present the specific features and role of compliments in linguistic communication in Russia.

Celem artykułu jest zbadanie językowych eksponentów rosyjskich komplementów. Przykłady, które będą analizowane, pochodzą ze współczesnego języka rosyjskiego. Rozważymy bezpośrednie i pośrednie komplementy, zwracając uwagę na takie zjawiska, jak presupozycja i implikatura, a także na pragmatyczne funkcje wypowiedzi. Analiza strategii komunikacyjnych pozwoli nam przedstawić charakterystyczne cechy komplementów i ich rolę w komunikacji językowej w Rosji.

W XVII w. krasomówstwo towarzyszyło wszystkim ważnym wydarzeniom z życia politycznego i prywatnego. Okazją do zaprezentowania oratorskiego kunsztu było m. in. wesele. Najważniejsze oracje epitalamijne nazywane były oddawaniem panny i dziękowaniem za nią. Ich budowa i tematy zaś określone przez wypracowaną przez lata konwencję. W artykule przedstawię kompozycję i tematykę tych dwóch gatunków mów weselnych (oddawanie panny, dziękowanie za pannę) oraz analizę wybranych oracji Andrzeja Chryzostoma Załuskiego pod kątem środków służących pochwale.

In the XVII century, oratory accompanied all important political and private events. An opportunity to present one’s elocutionary artistry was, among others, the wedding. The most important orations are called giving a maiden away and giving acknowledgement for a maiden. Their composition and themes were determined by a convention which had been developed over the course of years. My paper aims to present the composition and the subject area of the two types of wedding speech and the analysis of chosen Andrzej Chryzostom Załuski’s orations, in terms of measures to laudation.

This paper displays the definition of feedback, its role in the learning process and presents different modes of how feedback may be organised in classroom conditions. The first issue presented in the article is related to types of mistakes and their sources. The following points are devoted to the matter of who makes corrections. To be more precise, three of them: teacher – student correction, student – student correction and self-correction are discussed and supported with appropriate techniques which lead to a successful accomplishment of feedback.

Poniższy artykuł ma za zadanie wyjaśnić co to jest informacja zwrotna, ukazać rolę jaką pełni w procesie nauczania oraz przedstawić różne sposoby jej wdrożenia w pracy z uczniami. Pierwszym aspektem poruszonym w tym artykule jest opis rodzajów błędów oraz wskazanie ich pochodzenia. Kolejne punkty dotyczą kwestii kto inicjuje i kto dokonuje poprawy błędów. Wymienione zostały trzy możliwości: nauczyciel – uczeń, uczeń – uczeń oraz autokorekta, które zostały dokładnie opisane oraz podparte odpowiednimi technikami będącymi kluczem do sukcesu w obrębie omawianego tematu.
