The paper presents a concept of a short engine test SET that can be applied to the engines tested in vehicles without the need of their dismantling and is purposed for the evaluation of heavy duty diesels exhaust toxic compound emission. The worked out SET test could be performed on a simplified chassis dynamometer and provides results similar to those obtained by using the 13-stage ECE R49 stationary test carried out on an engine test house. Due to that the same standards of exhaust toxicity (EURO I, II, III and IV) can be applied.
