Polypyrrole doped with Cl ions (PpyCl) was treated with aqueous PdCl2 - HCl solutions of various HCl concentration. It was found that palladium was incorporated into PpyCl. XRD and XPS studies showed that part of Pd2+ was reduced to Pd0. It was concluded that the possible mechanism of interactions between palladium ions and PpyCl involved an oxidative doping of Ppy with incorporation of palladium-containing anions as counterions. The doping level of Ppy with palladium-containing anions depended on the HCl concentration in the PdCl2 solution.
